Deception by Evangelical and Fundamentalist Scholars

If Satan wants his false prophets to gain credibility, he has to make it look like they are making prophesies, or interpreting them, in a way that appears they are actually coming true! These prophesies have to be close enough that people believe they were from God. Some of what they say must appear to have been correct!

Satan, actually, has no control over when the End Times events occur; This is something that God the Father has reserved for Himself. Satan can, however, provide false interpretations of these same events.

Don’t get me wrong, Satan certainly is involved in the current world events, but he can only work when God allows him to do it. He is on a leash, like a vicious dog, but within the confines of his leash, he has considerable freedom to do as he pleases. And, he can bark, and growl, and whisper lies as much as he wants!

So, would it surprise you that Evangelical and Fundamentalist teachers are teaching things that ultimately have their origin with Satan? In the end, will these Evangelical and Fundamentalist Churches join together in ecumenical unity with the likes of the New Apostolic Reformation, the mainline denominations, and the Roman Church?

Absolutely, yes!

And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.” Luke 21:8

Rapture Ready is a Christian Apologetic End Times prophecy website which actually does have some excellent articles. In amongst these articles, however, it also carries some articles which are teaching error. This week I was reading an article by Alan Franklin; The European Stage Is Set for Antichrist and I couldn’t help noting some notable errors.

Again, there is some truth in this article.

He states of the current influx of “refugees” into Europe;

“Most of the current immigrants are Islamic, with up to 90 per cent being men aged around 25 to 35. So are they mainly coming to Europe to work, when Europe already has an average of eleven percent of its workforce unemployed? Further, there is over 20 percent unemployment of those under 25 across the EU.

If the immigrants were really being attacked by terrorists, would they not wish to stay and defend their wives and children?When Hitler threatened to invade England, the men dug in and were ready to defend every inch of British soil; they did not run away.”

I certainly can agree with everything he says in these two paragraphs. The current influx of young Muslim men into Europe is actually an invasion, and it is going to lead to serious trouble both in Europe and in North America. And, by “trouble” I mean war.

From a human perspective of the Muslim invasion into the west, I could not disagree with Franklin at all. My disagreement comes from his interpretation of the End Times events, and his reading his own eschatology into the bible’s text.

Earlier he had written;

“The continent is in turmoil. The nations of the European Union, 28 countries from the United Kingdom to the Baltics, are facing an influx of immigrants unseen since the end of the Second World War. Hundreds were filmed attacking Hungarian border guards while screaming “Allahu akbar” which in Arabic means “god is great.”

I write “god” with a lower case “g.” The key point for those looking at the spiritual dimension of this invasion is that we do NOT all worship the same god.”

The Roman Catholic uses a capital “G” for their god, and so do the Muslims who speak and write in English. By insisting that the Muslim God should be written with a lower case “g” he is causing his readers to misunderstand Daniel 11:36-37

36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. 37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

As he states later “Muslims don’t deny there is a God in heaven”, they only deny that God has a son. But since he himself notes that Muslims do proclaim that there is a God in Heaven, it is entirely possible that “the God of his fathers” could be the God of Islam.  It is, as we shall see…

Since verse 37 specifically states that the Antichrist will not regard, or care about, the God of his fathers, it is entirely possible that he could be a descendant of a long line of Muslims! Since verse 36 separates the God of gods from the God of his fathers, this is the most likely interpretation of this verse; The God of his fathers is a monotheistic God, but not the God of the bible!

He also states;

“Scripture tells why we won’t have an Islamic Antichrist. Daniel 9:26 confirms the Antichrist’s Roman origin. Verse 27 shows he will make a peace/protection treaty with Israel, which will signal the start of the Tribulation.”

As I have noted in the Spirit of Prophecy, there is a common, shallow, interpretation of Daniel 9:26 that does not examine all the details of the destruction of Jerusalem.

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Most bible scholars simply look at the big picture; that the armies of Rome destroyed Jerusalem around 70 AD. This is incorrect and actually glosses over the details of that event.

The armies of Rome contained many soldiers from many nations, and Josephus’ account specifically details how Vespasian had stopped in Damascus on his march toward Jerusalem, and had picked up “many auxiliaries from the kings in that neighbourhood”

So Vespasian sent his son Titus from Achaia, where he had been with Nero, to Alexandria, to bring back with him from thence the fifth and the tenth legions, while he himself, when he had passed over the Hellespont, came by land into Syria, where he gathered together the Roman forces, with a considerable number of auxiliaries from the kings in that neighbourhood.” (Josephus, Book 3, chapter 1)

So we know that there were many Syrian soldiers among the Roman armies that ransacked Jerusalem, thus it is possible that the Antichrist could have a Syrian background! This, however, is not deep enough! Lets go deeper, and farther back in time! Even as the Roman armies were advancing on Jerusalem, someone else got there first, and set the events in motion!

The Idumeans, the descendants of Jacob’s brother Esau, attacked the city at night, and killed some 20,500 people including 8,000 men in the Temple itself! They also held a kangaroo trial and killed the High priest Ananus and his deputy, named Jesus, and thus ensured the destruction of Jerusalem.

As Josephus notes, Ananus and Jesus were cognizant of the fact that the Jews could not defeat Rome, and were prepared to negotiate a surrender. With these two benefactors dead, the Idumeans left the Zealots in charge of Jerusalem. The Zealots were so filled with hatred toward their conquerors that they were prepared to sacrifice the entire city in defiance of Rome! And, that is exactly what happened! (Josephus, The Jewish War, Book 4, chapter 5, Section 2)

Josephus specifically lays the blame for the destruction of Jerusalem directly at the feet of the Idumeans, and thus we can be sure that the Antichrist will come from the descendants of the Idumeans, Israel’s neighbor on the east!

So, when Daniel notes that the Beast will conquer the whole world, there is one little nation that he will not conquer; Edom, Moab and Ammon are today united together in the little nation just to the east of Israel, on the same territory that their ancestors lived on some 3,000 years ago!

He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.” Daniel 11:41

Many prophecy “scholars” have speculated that this little nation will be too strong for the man who is able to conquer the whole world! Hmm?  Or maybe they are just too small for him to be bothered with? No! No way! The Antichrist will not conquer this nation because they are his people! They are his original power base, and he has no need to conquer them!  They will be on-side with the Antichrist from the beginning!

What an ingenious way of putting it! If God had said “the people of Edom, Moab, and Ammon, are the people of the Antichrist” many innocent generations of their descendants, some of them Christians, would have been hunted down and exterminated by Rome and others. By hiding their identity in the sands of history, and the pages of Scripture, it was left to the End Times generation to discover who it is the Antichrist calls his family!

By passing off this shallow excuse for exegesis, Alan Franklin has joined the ranks of false teachers! I hope he digs deeper and repents of this false teaching. Just because this article aligns itself with the majority, it does not mean that it is correct!

The current European crisis will indeed lead to the break-up of the European Union into several smaller economic and political unions. One of these unions will be a ten nation confederacy led by a charismatic dictator, and he and the pope will work together, until they are destroyed during the Gog/Magog war.

No doubt when this happens men like Alan Franklin will claim that they had indeed identified the Antichrist. With the “Antichrist” out of the way there will be nothing to stop the Christian denominations to set-up an ecumenical union.

Roman Catholic Churches will admit that Preterism, and Amillennialism had been wrong, and that this latest war “had been Armageddon” and this new-found humility will lead the protestants to be willing to join with them, setting up a new headquarters in Babylon. (Yes ISIS will be defeated by this time as well, and the “Christians” will have returned to Iraq.)

When these things happen then the world will be ready to set up a global government, and the only thing opposed to it will be true believers who understand that this “Armageddon” was only a Church-age war, and that the real Beast is set to rise! They will be persecuted, and hunted down until the Lord Himself takes them in the Pre-Tribulation rapture, and then “the word will be as one” as John Lennon said!

The Rapture in II Thessalonians

On social media I keep coming across people, professing Christians, who attack the pre-Tribulation rapture doctrine.  You can answer their objections biblically, and it is like they don’t even read the Scriptures you point to, but just continue their attacks, saying the same thing over and over again.

Have you ever noticed that some people point to 2 Thessalonians 2:3 to show that the Church will still be on earth when the Antichrist rules the earth, however, others point to verse 8 to show that the Church (the true believers) will be raptured before the Beast, the man of sin, is revealed.

At first glance it appears that each side has a point;

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

This passage very clearly says that our gathering unto him (the Lord Jesus Christ) will not happen until the Antichrist is revealed.

What the bible does not say is also very important; this passage DOES NOT say that the Antichrist will rule the earth before the rapture, only that he will be REVEALED first.

Most of the first group I mentioned try to tell us that this passage is teaching us that believers will have to endure the Tribulation before being caught up in the rapture! This is actually a heresy, designed to cause believers to despair, rather than trust the Lord. These people make up the ranks of the “preppers”; groups of people who hoard food and weapons in hopes that they will survive the Tribulation, hunkered down in their bunkers.

This is a fleshly strategy and is not based on faithful Scriptural interpretation. It is a strategy that is destined to fail!

The second group, who point to the second part, are a little closer to the Scriptural teaching, but they also are ignoring the teaching of the earlier part of the chapter;

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

The “he” in verse 7 is actually the Church, or the particular ministry of the Holy Spirit in the Church. In relation to the Lord, the Church takes on a feminine, submissive role, but in relation to the world, and the spirit of Antichrist, the Church is a warrior, which is a very masculine role! The Holy Spirit will still save after the Church is removed, just as He saved before the founding of the Church, but the unique relationship with the Church on the earth will end when we are removed.

Very clearly this passage is teaching that the Antichrist will be revealed AFTER the rapture! This passage is often used to teach that there will be no signs before the Rapture. This, however, is incorrect. There are many signs of the End Times before the rapture, including the Psalm 83 war, the war of Ezekiel 38-39, and the complete regathering of Israel (Zephaniah 2:1-3).

Eschatology 101

In order to understand any part of Scripture we need to have an understanding of every verse that touches on the same subject. God never contradicts Himself, and so a correct understanding of any subject will not contradict any other part of Scripture. We have to learn to harmonize all of Scripture.

Here’s what Amos says;

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7 

Nothing means nothing! The biggest prophetic event since the cross will be the Tribulation period, and God will certainly warn His people that it is about to occur!

So, isn’t this what is happening here? I think what Paul is saying is that the Antichrist will be revealed to those who are in the place of the prophets today, the true believers of Jesus’ Church, then the rapture, and then the Antichrist will be revealed to the world in general.

No doubt the believers will attempt to warn other “Christians”, and their neighbours, but no one will listen. In fact they will be persecuted for disrespecting such a “good man”. Finally when the rapture occurs, then some will understand, but it will be too late for them. They will die during the Tribulation, but they will have the opportunity to glorify the Lord in their deaths.

One thing most of these people forget is to read Scripture in context. Forgetting this rule is the “rule” when it comes to Amillennialists, Preterists, and Post-millennialists, but even Dispensationalists sometimes fall into this trap.

What is the context of 2 Thessalonians 2? 2 Thessalonians 1 of course! Well, let’s look at what this passage says;

6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

You see Paul is continuing with the same thought in chapter 2, as he addresses in chapter 1.

So where are those who are “troubled” going to rest? Here is a hint, it is in the same place as the authors of this book are resting, Paul, Silas, and Timothy; Heaven! They have been in Heaven for almost 2,000 years in a spiritual form, but they will be coming back to earth to get their bodies back, some day soon, and then they will return to Heaven with the raptured saints!

The wording of verse 6 is an invitation to the saints to come to Heaven while the Tribulation takes place on the earth!  This is the rapture in 2 Thessalonians 1!

The word “tribulation” simply means trouble, and does not necessarily mean the Great Tribulation, but in this case the context dictates that this IS the Great Tribulation! Then, the authors write chapter 2 to elaborate on what they have just said in chapter 1! They are simply continuing with the same thought!

Notice in verse 6, his reference to “it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;”.  The authors are predicting a time of world-wide, intense persecution, shortly before the rapture.

This persecution will occur during and between the Psalm 83 war and the war of Ezekiel 38-39. Many professing Christians will interpret this time as being the Tribulation itself, but in reality it is the time of “wars and rumours of wars”, Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:6. This is the “final straw” that the Lord is referring to with His promise to “recompense tribulation to them that trouble you”.

Christians in North America, and the UK have had many generations without severe persecution, but we can now see that time coming on the horizon. Since the founding of Israel, Christians in the Holy Land have been relatively unmolested, but after the Gog/Magog war, where “Christian” nations join with Muslim nations to attack Israel, the reaction in Israel will be persecution against true believers.

The time to prepare is now. Now is the time we need to be in the Word and in prayer. When I was a teen I found it difficult to be in the Word every day, but now as we see these things forming on the horizon we need to be motivated to study the Word. You need to know the Word, but don’t worry about preparing sermons for those who persecute you, let the Lord take care of that.

9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. 10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations. 11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Mark 13:9-11

(Just one final note: the Christian Church building is modelled after the Jewish Synagogue. It is certain that the End-Times persecution of believers will actually occur within “Christian” Church buildings, as well as Jewish Synagogues!)

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21:28

Ezekiel 38-39, Two Wars or One?

Jesus said, about the End Times; “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:5)

Now what is His name? Jesus Christ. So what He is saying is that many will come in the name of Jesus Christ, as Christians, saying that Jesus is the Messiah, but they still will deceive many! They use their Christian testimony to gain credibility, and then they teach error about the End Times! This is exactly what we are seeing today!

What did he go on to say about these false teachers?

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

The first thing he mentions is “wars and rumours of wars”, and He tells us to “see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass”. What is the implication here? It is that many of these false teachers will be teaching that these wars and rumours of wars are a part of the Tribulation itself; that you are experiencing the Tribulation yourself!

What else will this mean? It would mean that the Rapture doesn’t happen until the end of the Tribulation, and those who taught a pre-Trib rapture were incorrect! The problem is that the bible actually does teach a pre-Trib rapture.

Notice though, that Jesus says “but the end is not yet” and “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” He is telling us that there will be signs that the Church will be here for, shortly before the Tribulation, and that these signs will include great wars. We could paraphrase His statement something like “for all these things must come to pass, but the end for you is not yet.” You will see wars, and rumours of wars, that look like the Tribulation, but are actually NOT a part of it!

He is telling us that if you see a time period that looks like the Tribulation, carefully examine the events of that time frame, by the Scriptures, and you will see that they are biblically prophesied wars, but NOT actually a part of the Tribulation!

So, Dispensationalists were incorrect to tell us that there would be no signs before the rapture. There have been, and will be more, signs before the Rapture of God’s people.

Geoffrey Grider has written a blog post for Now The End Begins blog, in which he claims that Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 are two different wars, separated by a thousand years.

I think he is mistaken.

At about the one-third point he claims that

“More than that, Ezekiel 39 ends with the full and final regathering of the Jewish people to Israel, and not the Great White Throne Judgment. This regathering of the Jews after Armageddon sets up the final battle of Gog and Magog 1,000 years later.”

While Grider is correct that Ezekiel 39 ends with the final regathering of the people of Israel, he ignores the clear statement regarding this regathering found in Zephaniah 2:1-2

1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; 2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you.

Israel will be gathered BEFORE the Tribulation, and since they are still being gathered AFTER the Gog/Magog war, this war can not be a Tribulation event!

Now, it cannot be said that Israel has been gathered today. It could be said that the people living in Israel have been gathered from the nations where they were scattered, but it cannot be said of the whole nation. There are many millions of Jews and Israelites living in many nations all over the world.

Many of the tribes of Israel live as Muslims in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. They will not escape the Tribulation, but will return to the God of their fathers (in name only), and the land of Israel, BEFORE the Tribulation begins!

Clearly this statement from Zephaniah indicates that all Israel will be gathered (past tense) BEFORE the Tribulation, the fierce anger of the Lord, comes upon them. Since they are being gathered after the war of Ezekiel 39 then this war must be a Church-Age war, and not a part of the Tribulation!

At the beginning of Ezekiel 38 we find that the armies of Gog come upon a people who are gathered from many nations, but this does not mean that all Israel has been gathered.  The statement could apply to those living in Israel today, but not to the whole nation.  Those of Israel who have been gathered are the ones living on the land, but there are still many who have not been gathered yet;

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

Grider states that chapter 38 actually takes place at the final Gog and Magog war, at the end of the Millennial reign of Christ. This statement, however, does not say that Israel has been brought back from all the nations where they were scattered, but only “many nations”.

The term “later years” is not a reference to the end of the Millennial reign of Christ, but to the later times of the Church-age. The situation will be a time of peace, which is not the situation today, but it is still not the millennial reign. This is a reference to the time after the Psalm 83 war, when the Arabs are subdued, and have made peace with Israel.

Zephaniah links the rapture with the final gathering of Israel in the very next verse;

3 Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.

Who are the meek of the earth? This is not Israel, but the body of true believers, scattered throughout the world. And, their place of hiding is not on the earth, but in their chambers in Heaven! It was to these chambers Jesus was referring to when he said

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions (chambers, dwelling places): if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:2

Isaiah 27 also links the return of the last Hebrews with a great war, and a great trumpet. I think this trumpet is the same one that calls the believers home.  It signifies the end of the Church age, and the return to the age of Israel.  Israel’s last seven years;

12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

So a great trumpet is associated with the final gathering of the children of Israel, and Zephaniah declares that this gathering will occur BEFORE the Tribulation. Isaiah 27 also tells us that Israel will receive all of their land after this war.

It is the outcome of this war that brings Israel back. A great many descendants of Israel live outside of the land, and they will not go back if they think the Day of the Lord, the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, is a yet future event. They know that Zechariah prophesies that 2/3 of Israel will die during the Tribulation, and they are anxious to avoid that!  

This is why God has to “hiss” to bring them back. He has to let false teachers tell them that the Tribulation is over! People who teach that Israel will return AFTER the Tribulation are false teachers who are telling Israel what Satan wants them to hear!

I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased. Zechariah 10:8

Don’t read “saved” into the word “redeemed”. The word “redeemed” simply means “purchased”. Jesus purchased the world from His father, when he died on the cross. Even Israel. He only saves those who come to Him by faith, but he has redeemed (purchased) the whole human race. As long as Israel continues to teach the false doctrines of the Talmud, and their traditions, they are cut-off from the commonwealth of God!

His “hiss” is not friendly, but in exasperation He will use Satan, and false teachers, to bring Israel back to the land, after the Gog/Magog war, and then the Tribulation will begin! If Geoffrey Grider continues to teach that Israel is gathered “after” the Tribulation he is a false teacher, and will be used to bring Israel back for the time of Jacob’s Trouble!

Mr. Grider is not alone, unfortunately; a great many Christian, and even Jewish, scholars are today teaching that the Gog/Magog war is a part of the Tribulation!  These are the ones Jesus was referring to as deceivers, in Matthew 24:5!

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Address to the UN General Assembly

I was watching Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly, and I have just a few comments to add.

First of all, please let me state that you should watch this.  Mr. Netanyahu is a real statesman.  People like the US president would do well to emulate Mr. Netanyahu, and rise above their petty liberal politics!

I have a few comments, but I will post them below the video;

I think Israel’s desire for peace will get them in trouble.

He said that “Israel is working closely with our Arab peace partners”.  This is a mistake.

While it is true that the Egyptian, Jordanian, and Saudi Arabian leadership are threatened by ISIS, and Iran, it would be a mistake for Israel to work together with them.  The Jews think like westerners, but the Arabs think differently.

Here’s how the Arab mind will view such cooperation; “Israel is working with the Saudi’s and Egyptians because they are too weak, and can’t do the job themselves!”

Go back to my posts about the Psalm 83 war, and take note of which nations are involved; the Arabs surrounding Israel.

Note the phrase in the psalm; “crafty counsel”

3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. 4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

There is no way in the world that ISIS could be accused of being “crafty”.  They make their reputation by being blatant and “in your face”.  No, ISIS is not one of the nations attacking Israel in the psalm, although the territory they now occupy will be a part of that war.  ISIS is setting the stage for the psalm 83 war, but are not a part of it themselves.

Is it possible that the Arabs will defeat ISIS with the help of Israel?  Is it also possible that the Arabs will deal a death-blow to Iran’s nuclear program, also with the help of Israel?

Both of these scenarios are not only possible, but actually likely!  Will this mean that Israel can relax their guard, and experience peace with their neighbours?  No!  The Arabs would take advantage of Israel’s relaxed attitude to stage a sudden, surprise attack on Israel, in the vain hope of destroying Israel.

This is what I see in the psalm, and instead of destroying Israel, it will result in the destruction of Arab independence.  In the aftermath, the Arab nations will most likely become protectorates of Israel!

The Catalans and the Gog and Magog war

In my studies on the Gog/Magog war, of Ezekiel 38-39, I discovered that this war is much bigger than most imagine. No doubt it will be referred to as World War 3, after the fact. Many will even refer to it as Armageddon, but it is actually not a part of the Tribulation period at all.

With the current Russian cooperation with Iran, many prophecy teachers are teaching that the Gog/Magog war is imminent. This is incorrect.

While it is true that Russia (Meschech and Tubal) and Iran (Persia) will be a part of the Ezekiel 38-39 war, they do not represent the whole attacking army.

The attacking army of the Gog/Magog war will come from the British Isles in the west, all the way to the borders of China in the east, and down to Turkey and Iran in the south. Other nations in the south will include Sudan (part of ancient Ethiopia), Ethiopia, and Libya.

Conspicuous in their absence in the account, are the Arab nations surrounding Israel. This is because the Arab nations like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Yemen, Kuwait, the U.A.E., Qatar, and Bahrain will have made peace with Israel long before this war begins. They will attack Israel several years earlier, during the Psalm 83 war, and being soundly beaten, they will sue for peace with Israel.

Israel may be instrumental in forming a super-nation of the defeated Arab nations after the Psalm 83 war.

The Arabs will not want the attack, but are listed as nations which protest the invasion; Sheba, Dedan and Tarshish.  These names are traditionally listed as Arab entities, and it will be the same during this war.  Tarshish is likely the Syrian port of Tartous, which will become the capital after the destruction of Damascus.

This is clear, but Ezekiel states that the attacking armies will include “Gomer, and all his bands”, and specifically designates Togarmah. Gomer, however, had three sons, Ashkenaz, Togarmah, and Riphath.

I have discussed before how Ashkenaz was the father of the Germanic tribes, which includes Germany, Austria, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the English. There can be no doubt that the Gog/Magog war will include all of these nations.

Togarmah was the father of the Turkic tribes who are spread from Turkey in the west to the Uyghurs in western China, and include representation in nations like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan.

Riphath was the father of the Celtic tribes which includes Armenia, Ireland, Scotland, the Welsh, the Bretons, or Gauls, and the Catalans of Spain.

I didn’t say much about the Catalans before, chiefly because I had not researched these people. In view of the current Catalan push for independence from Spain, I thought I had better take a closer look at these people.

The Catalan people of Spain are descendants of ancient Celtic tribes who entered the area around 1500 BC. Over time their language has been heavily influenced by Latin, and other local languages, but make no mistake that these people are descendants of Noah’s great-grandson Riphath. The prophecy concerns the ancestry of people more so than their languages.

The Ezekiel account lists the tribes by their patriarchs or ancient tribal names, and Gomer’s brother Javan is another who is conspicuous by his absence. Javan was the father of the southern Europeans, including the Greeks, and Italians. I am not sure where Spain fits in, but it is quite clear that the Spanish and the Catalans have different ancestry. The Catalans of Spain, and the Gauls of France, are much closer to each other than they are to the others in their respective nations.

Would God list the Spanish as descendants of Javan, and include them with the Greeks and Italians? I think so.

As the European Union breaks-up who will go in which direction? Will the borders of nations be split with parts going with the north and others going with the south? It is looking that way!

I am convinced that the Southern Europeans will form their own economic union, and the core of this union will be Greece and Italy, I am equally convinced that this Southern European Union will consist of ten nations.

These ten nations are NOT the ten toes of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (Daniel 2), nor the ten nations of Revelation 17:12. Note that Revelation 17:12 states that these ten nations have not received a kingdom as yet. These ten nations will NOT be old nations, but new super-nations created during the End Times, and they will encompass the whole earth, not merely the Mediterranean sea!

And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.”

No, a ten-nation Southern European Union will be Satan’s decoy for prophecy lovers! Prophecy lovers who will not accept the whole Word of God will be drawn-in to the deception, and when the leaders of the Southern European Union make a self-defense treaty with Israel after the Psalm 83 war, they will be identified by many as the “Antichrist” and the “False Prophet”.

That agreement will be the prototype for the real Antichrist’s treaty, but the first signers will NOT be the Antichrist and False Prophet, just patsies who take the fall for the real thing!  Once a treaty is signed, the armies of Gog and Magog will have to destroy Rome simultaneously if they hope to defeat Israel!

It thus follows that Satan is planning to destroy these decoys, in Rome, during the war of Gog and Magog, as a way of diverting attention away from the real False Prophet and Antichrist. After all, who would look for the Antichrist, if he is already dead?

So, where will the Catalans be during the Gog/Magog war? They will be allied with the Gog/Magog armies, attacking the Southern European Union, on their way to Israel!

Thoughts on the Roman Catholic Church

It has been some time now since I have written a blog post, and I apologize to my faithful readers.

It has been the middle of summer and I have a tendency to get distracted.

The biggest distraction was the wedding of my oldest son a couple of weeks ago. I must confess that while the wedding itself was a joyful event, I found it to be bitter-sweet, and troubling.

This was the first time in over 28 years since my ex-wife and I were in the same room together, other than a court room.

I had prepared a gospel presentation which I was unable to give, and so my own inaction was grievous to me throughout the reception, and for weeks following.

The wedding itself was held in a Roman Catholic Church, and I could not help but think about the errors of that organization throughout the ceremony. Some things were very familiar to me, like the choices of Scripture that were read.

Still I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that every Roman Catholic church contains bones of some “saint” or martyr woven into their elaborate decorations. Mention was made of the nine Jesuit martyrs who were killed by the Iroquois during the war of 1649, and I couldn’t help but wonder which martyr’s bone fragments were in the building we were in.

I cannot help but note the cannibalism in the account of Jean de Brebeuf’s killing, how the Iroquois thought they would partake of their victim’s courage by drinking his blood. Amazingly, the Catholics themselves also ground up parts of his bones and included them in medicines with which, it was claimed, several people were cured from various diseases and “heresy”! (If you are doing the same things the pagans are doing, how are you different?)

Indeed, the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation, that one must eat the literal body of Christ to be saved, actually means that one must literally be a cannibal in order to be saved!

While the bible does not specifically address the issue of cannibalism, we can be sure that it was unthinkable to the Hebrew society as a whole, and to most societies in general. Man was made in the image of God, and deserves to be treated with respect. Those who kill others are to be put to death according to the Scriptures.

When Jesus said “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you .” (John 6:53) many of His disciples were offended. The Roman Catholic Church takes this statement to mean that the communion bread, and wine, become the literal body and blood of Jesus, based on His statements in Matthew and Luke;

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:26-28

It is interesting how so many spiritualize and allegorize so much in Scripture, and yet here where Jesus was clearly speaking allegorically, the allegoricists take these statements and make them literal. One of the big objections the reformers had to the Roman Church was the doctrine of transubstantiation, that the bread and wine of the communion table become the literal body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. If only professing Christians would keep on reading, they would understand what is being said! Well, okay, they need to keep on reading with reliance upon the Holy Spirit, but when we do He points out our errors, and corrects us.

Luke records the purpose of this command, by the way;

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19

Yes that’s right, it was a means whereby we are to remember Him, and His sacrifice for us.  A memorial!  The very word “remembrance” has the same root as “memorial”!

In the very next breath, in John chapter 6, Jesus explains what he means when he says “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you”

61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:61-63

The flesh profiteth nothing”! Essentially He is saying that if someone had licked-up some of the blood on the ground under the cross, and/or snuck into the tomb and snipped off an ear, and literally ate the body and blood of Jesus Christ, they would have been just as lost, after doing it, as they were before!

the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” He is not saying that these particular words are life, but that everything he taught throughout His ministry is life! Jesus is saying that His words are who He is, and we must take them in, and digest them and make them a part of ourselves, in the same way we take a piece of meat and digest it so that the protein it contains becomes a part of our own muscles.

The picture of eating the words of God can be found repeatedly in Scripture

2:9 And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; 10 And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. Ezekiel 2:9-3:3

8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

Many people eat a little bread, and sip a little wine, at communion (or mass) and walk away totally unchanged. The flesh has no benefit! Jesus is telling us that we need to take His words and make them a part of ourselves! His goal for us is to make us like Himself, and that won’t happen if all we do is eat some bread and call it “the body of Christ”!

Faith means we take His words, believe them, and make them a part of our selves!

This is why Jesus Christ Himself is called “the Word” of God. Words are important to God. God never lies, and never deceives, although He is able to use the lies and deceptions of others to His own ends. His word is more important to Him than His very name!

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Psalms 138:2

Jesus is the Word, and the Word is Jesus. The Word of God is the visible revelation of God on the earth!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

It is the words of Jesus which give us life, and not only this one statement, but everything He said throughout the gospels, and even those words of His which are recorded in the epistles and Revelation. In fact the whole bible is the Word of God and must be taken as one revelation from Genesis to Revelation.  God who walked with Adam in the garden is none other than a pre-incarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As it says about Abraham, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness”.

Kent Hovind endorses “The Shack”

Wow! I just heard that Kent Hovind is endorsing “The Shack” by William P. Young!

Kent Hovind has done much work for the cause of Young Earth Creationism, but now as he has gained much credibility with his stand against the US government, he seems to be slipping in some serious heresy into his teachings!  (This is a pattern we are seeing with a lot of false teachers like Chuck Swindol, David Jeremiah, and Ravi Zacharias, but today I just want to focus on Dr. Hovind)

Dr. Hovind says that he has read “The Shack” 7 or 8 times, and while he doesn’t agree with everything in it, he recommends it as the best book he has ever read!

I tackled this book briefly in “The Spirit of Prophecy”, and I present a section of the book for you here;

“Well, I had to get it out of the library and check it out. Indeed it is true that the God presented in “The Shack” is not the God of the Bible. The God of this book is a pantheistic (God is all things) or panentheistic (God is in all things) God, that has more in common with Santa Claus than the God of the Bible.

The Shack is a cleverly crafted fable that sucks the reader in with the use of emotion, but in the end it teaches a false view of God.

God the Father is portrayed as an African-­American woman, named Eloise, but called “Papa”, who has scars on her hands. This is turning God into a goddess. The scars on her hands are extreme heresy since it was the Father who sacrificed His Son for mankind.

The Father did not suffer on the cross, it was Jesus alone who died for our sins! The Father abandoned His Son on the cross, and he did it for you! He did not suffer as did His Son. If He did suffer at all it was emotional, but the atonement was done by Christ alone!

While it is true that Jesus did come as a man, to portray God the Father and the Holy Spirit in this way is definitely idolatry. (Exodus 20:4) Our culture is so used to this that we do not see it when it happens right in front of us.

What does the God of the Shack have to say about sin? “I don’t need to punish people for sin. Sin is its own punishment, devouring from the inside. It’s not my purpose to punish it; it’s my joy to cure it” (The Shack, page 120).

What does the God of the bible say about the punishment of sin? And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:10­15)

The Father was satisfied by His Son’s sacrifice! It was actually the Father who demanded the sacrifice, though Jesus is just as Holy as His Father. The Jesus of the Shack is not the Jesus of the Bible, but “another Jesus”. This guy is a Jewish carpenter who goes around fixing things, and is some sort of “good old boy”.

Paul Young elevates experience to a level equal to or even above Scripture, and is demeaning to the reformation doctrine of “Sola Scriptura”. He also subtly promotes a form of Universalism, called Universal Reconciliation, or Christian Universalism. Though he publically denies this, nevertheless this is what is presented in the pages of this book.

Dr. Michael Youssef has counted thirteen heresies promoted in “The Shack”. (13 Heresies, Youssef) As an engaging read, the author sneaks these ideas into your head while you are preoccupied with the emotion of the story. The ideas presented serve to undermine biblical Christianity. The “Jesus” of the Shack says “I am the best way any human can relate to Papa (God the Father), or Sarayu (God the Holy Spirit).(p. 110) The clear implication is that there are are other ways to relate to God. The Jesus of the bible says something very different:” (The Spirit of Prophecy, pages 127-128)

Notice, at the 25:20 point he plays an interview by Stephen Anderson, a self-professed Nazi sympathizer, with Dr. Hovind. In this section he endorses a form of Eugenics, stating that the human race would get better if adulterers, homosexuals, murderers, those who practise bestiality, and several other sins, were put to death! Here he is bringing back the Old Testament law, and does not seem to have the discernment to realize that the Church-Age believers are not under the law, but under grace.

The problem with all of these behaviours is not genetics, but the old problem of sin. We are sinners by nature, and the only solution for this is not ISIS’ solution of “death to the infidels” but the new birth, and salvation through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! For him to make statements like these, plus the company he keeps, make me think that Dr. Kent Hovind does not understand salvation!

Large parts of the Holy Bible were written by three murderers, Moses, David and the Apostle Paul. Moses killed an Egyptian slave owner who had been beating a Hebrew slave. Here is Moses’ own account, and note that he did not intervene while the beating was going on, but went later and premeditatedly killed the Egyptian. Interestingly, in all the law that Moses would later write, he never once said it was OK to kill a man who beat his slaves!

11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. 13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? 14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. 15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian:…” Exodus 2:11-15

No, Moses was a murderer, and his murder was not OK, but God had a plan for Moses, and saved him in spite of this murder, as He has done with other murderers, like David for example;

David had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba, and then to cover it up he had his soldiers abandon her husband, Uriah, in battle, so that he was killed by the sword of the Ammonites. God, however, held David accountable;

Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.” II Samuel 12:9

Did David deserve to die for this crime? Yes, absolutely, but God was showing us a principle that He employs over and over again: “I desired mercy and not sacrifice” (Hosea 6:6) Time and time again God shows us mercy, hoping that we will repent, and turn to Him for forgiveness.

Today David knows that he deserves the depths of the lake of fire, and yet he is not there because of the mercy of God! As a result David has an exceedingly great love for the Lord!

This is the same principle Jesus explained in Luke;

Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Luke 7:47

Do you realize that your sins separated between you and God also? Have you turned to Him in repentance and faith?

The man who eventually became known as the Apostle Paul went about killing Christians before his conversion. I have heard Christians excuse Paul because it says “he was consenting” to the killings. Let’s be clear here, the word “consenting” here means that Paul gave them permission to kill Stephen, and other Christians, and also that he took responsibility.  The buck stopped with Saul of Tarsus!

The high ranking Nazi officers who gave the orders were the ones the western governments held responsible, and put to death at Nuremburg, even though they were not the ones who carried out the crimes personally. In the same way, Saul of Tarsus, the Apostle Paul, was indeed guilty of murder, but he was forgiven and repented.

It is not the place for Christians to advocate for the death penalty for any person. Many people deserve death, but that is the place of the civil government, and I would argue that most civil governments do not approach the subject in a just way. The place of Christians is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The early Church got its start in a society where many murderers walked free, and many innocent people were put to death; the Roman Empire. In spite of this travesty, the church did not set its goal to make society more just. Rather they simply preached the cross of Christ, and salvation in His name!  The Lord demands no more, and no less of us today!

The British government in the American colonies, and the early US government did not apply biblical law in the New Testament fashion, but more in the way the Old Testament applied it, only much more harshly.  Actually, more like Rome.  This is because of the Calvinism of the early settlers, and the fact that they did not understand the mercy of God.

In fact the Apostle Paul actually lists those guilty of some of the very same sins on Dr. Hovind’s list, as members of the early Church;

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. I Corinthians 6:9-11

The early Church did indeed have former idolaters, adulterers, gays and homosexuals, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners in its membership. If our governments were to put people like this to death the whole world would be empty! We live in an age of grace where God wants us to be merciful to sinners, yet not ignoring sin, but calling sinners to repentance.

A man who advocates the death penalty for these people is a man who does not understand the mercy of God toward himself! It makes me wonder if Dr. Hovind is saved himself!

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Matthew 18:23-35

Dr. Hovind is a man who should be avoided, because he is teaching heresy to Christians!

Which Bible?

So much is riding on our view of the bible. Ultimately it is our eternal destiny that is at stake.  This is not something we should ignore.

What if the bible you are reading has perverted doctrines, and the thoughts and views of the translators inserted as if they were the words of God? There are many bibles that are like this. At what point is the Jesus of your bible a false Jesus? How many professing Christians are following a Jesus who’s characteristics are more like the ideas of men than the wild God-man revealed in the original bible?

Every new version of the bible is different than the last, and every revision is substantially different than the previous one.

Muslims teach, since the time of Mohammad, that the Christian bible is corrupted and can’t be relied upon, and our hundreds of versions in the English language give them cause to gloat. The glut of modern bible versions, each different than the next, confirms to Muslims that Mohammad was correct!

But was he?

The fact is that Christians have always had only one bible. Between the time of Christ and 1881, millions of Christians died for that bible. Estimates range between 25 – 50 million during the reign of terror of the Roman Catholic Church, and many more hundreds of millions have died at the hands of practitioners of other religions.

The Novatians, Donatists, Montanists, Waldenses, Albigenses, Paulicians, and many other groups, knew the bible and were willing to die for their beliefs. Well, if people like James White are correct, however, then these people didn’t know the bible, since they are still reconstructing it!

So, what does the bible itself say about its own preservation? Does the bible teach that God would ensure Christians had access to the bible, or was it lost throughout history and is only now being restored by modern textual critics?

Here are just a few of the many verses regarding the bible’s preservation;

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:18  

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. Psalm 12:6-7 

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever. Isaiah 59:21 

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40:8 

And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Luke 16:17

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24: 35  

Matthew 24:35 is a promise of Jesus Christ Himself, and if God’s word was preserved in a library somewhere, or in a monastery somewhere else, and was not generally available to Christians, then really this promise would have been a lie. He certainly did NOT mean that His word would be preserved in a place where people could not check it to see what He had said.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1 Peter 1:23-25

So God promised that He would preserve His word, not in some cave, or in the sands of Egypt, but by its use in Christian Churches. And Christians did have bibles; the bible is the one ancient document that has the most manuscript evidence. Not only are there almost 6,000 manuscripts in the original languages, but there are tens of thousands of manuscripts in the early translations.

The vast majority of these manuscripts are of one family, commonly called the Byzantine text, which is the text that underlies the King James Bible.

There is another text, a corrupt stream, which is represented by around 255 manuscripts. The Vaticanus, and Sinaiticus, documents are in this group, as well as Jerome’s Vulgate, and because they are older than the majority of the Byzantine manuscripts it is to these two documents to which many modern translations refer to in their footnotes as “the oldest and best manuscripts”.

The truth is that these documents are older, but are certainly not better than the Byzantine text. The Sinaiticus document has numerous revisions and deletions, and bears the handwriting of at least seven people. Not only this but these two documents do not even agree between each other in over 3,000 places!

Here is the thing; the Critical Text, based on these flawed documents, was never used in Churches from the time of Christ until 1881. Real Christians rejected them for the Received Text, and Catholic Churches did not allow their people to read any bible at all for well over 1,000 years!

The bible text that the aforementioned Novatians, Donatists, Montanists, Waldenses, Albigenses, Paulicians, and many other groups used is the Byzantine text, which you know in its English form as the King James Bible. This is the bible for which millions died. No one died for the Critical Text; it is not worth dying for!

In case you are not sure which bibles I am referring to as the Critical Text, they are represented by bibles with names such as the NIV, NASB, the Living Bible, the CEV, the Douay-Rheims, the Jerusalem bible, the New Century Version, and the Message (which is really just a New Age Mess).

The New King James Version is based on the Textus Receptus, but its footnotes cast doubt on the text where in many places it states “this reading is not found in the oldest and best manuscripts”, or words to this effect. Not only this but the Old Testament text the NKJV uses is the corrupt Leningrad Codex, which was doctored by Nazis during the second world war!

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: II Peter 1:19 

A “sure word of prophecy” means that we actually have a bible which we can rely on, and which is the same as that which was inspired by the Holy Spirit. We may not understand everything as God intended it, but the words are there for all of us to read! The problem is with us, not with Him!

Please don’t get me wrong; God did not promise to preserve the English language, nor did he promise to preserve His word in every language. His promise is in regard to the original text in the original languages. The preserved word of God is the Ben Chayyim Hebrew text, and the Textus Receptus in the Greek; The King James bible is a faithful translation of that text, and gets its inspiration in a secondary way, through the original text.

I can’t say the KJV is perfect, although it is based on a perfect text. What I can say is that the KJV is without proven error, is accurate, and trustworthy, and superior to any modern translation. Any confusion can be cleared up by studying the original languages. You don’t have to become fluent in Greek or Hebrew, just get a good dictionary. I have found the “MySword” app. for Android to be very helpful, as it has the option of loading a Hebrew and Greek lexicon with the KJV bible text.

Some KJV Onlyists will tell you that the bible was lost, and re-inspired through the KJV translators. This is a heresy taught by false teachers like Peter Ruckman. They don’t believe the bible was preserved, but that God had to restore it through the KJV translators, but as we have seen above, God’s promise was that He would preserve His Word, and He has done it as He promised.

Read the article on the history of bible believing churches, and you will see that Christians have always had bibles. (The article is excellent, but don’t believe these ancient Christians were Baptists; they might have been “Baptistic” and had some doctrines in common with modern Baptists, but all of them used real wine in their communion services. They did not feel comfortable in changing the Word of God as many modern Baptists, and fundamentalists do!)

The bible was preserved through its use in the Churches.  Churches who received the original letters made accurate copies, which were sent to other Churches, and when the originals wore out, it wasn’t a problem because they had lots of copies which they had made in the mean time.

Copies of copies were made so that the Byzantine text has the most manuscript evidence of any ancient document.   This text is so uniform that Textual Critics refer to it as one text, even though there are almost 6,000 copies.  The copies were made by people who loved, and feared, the Lord and took great pains to ensure that their copies were accurate.

Calling it “one text” is a way they try to marginalize this text, and to imply that it is outnumbered by the two texts, Codex Vaticanus, and Codex Sinaiticus.  The truth is that the TR outnumbers the critical text by a margin of over 5,000/250!

When the modern Textual critics tell you that the oldest manuscripts are the best available they are being deliberately misleading. Christians did not use the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus documents, so they were indeed preserved, but they were not used because real Christians knew they were untrustworthy, and rejected them, and non-Christians were not interested in the bible at all!  (If you don’t use something it won’t wear out!)

It was not until heretics in the Anglican Church, by the names of Westcott and Hort, foisted their Critical text on a dumbed-down Church, that any Christians used this text.  By that time Christians had built up an unjustified amount of respect for humanistic “scholarship”, that a great many accepted the fraudulent text without question.  After all the men behind it were “scholars”.  (Oooh!  Everybody bow down!)  

This was the same era when men calling themselves “scientists” tried to destroy the bible by pushing the evolutionary hypothesis!  But evolution is just an old pagan idea taught in ancient Greece, and other places.  Essentially theistic evolutionists are saying that “God was wrong, and the pagans were right!”  I don’t believe such people can be truly saved!

This reliance on “scholars” has led us to where we are today, where the judgment of God is looming on the horizon!  The acceptance of men like Westcott and Hort, and ecumenists like Billy Graham, and Rick Warren, is a sure sign that we are in the Great End Times Apostasy spoken of by many in the bible.

Who is Lucifer in Isaiah 14?

Once again I have gotten into a controversy with regard to the Authorized Version of the bible, aka the King James Bible.  I did tackle the identity of Lucifer in Isaiah 14 here, but having reassessed my views, I think what I am about to propose to you is clearer, and more correct;

This time I have been discussing the use of the word “Lucifer” in Isaiah 14, versus other possible translations such as “Morning Star” or “Day star” used in modern versions, with a KJV onlyist. As I have been researching the controversy I have felt physically ill while reading articles on the subject. It seems that no one is actually reading the context of Isaiah 14, but are basing their ideas on traditions, or a partial reading of the text.  I see this on both sides of the argument!

The context is set in verses 1-3, and is clearly speaking of an event which will occur during the millennial reign of Christ.  This is not something that happened in the distant past, but something that will occur in the near future.

We often interpret words based on the myths and stories we were told as young people, without actually thinking critically on word definitions, or their origins. Christians, both Protestant and Catholic, are guilty of this as much as anyone.

When I read the name “Lucifer” I immediately think of the leader of the angel who rebelled against God, who is often referred to in Scripture as “the devil”, or “Satan”.   (Well, I did, but I won’t make that mistake again.)  The association between “Lucifer” and Satan is something that occurred somewhere around 400AD, in Roman Pagan tradition, and does not actually come from the Scriptures itself.

The bible does not actually teach that Lucifer is Satan. The idea gradually made its way into the Church after the creation of the Latin Vulgate. The Vulgate itself actually used the name “Lucifer” in places that clearly refer to Jesus Christ.

In 2 Peter 1:19, the KJV renders the Greek word φωσφόρος (phosphoros) as ‘day star.’ Again, the Latin Vulgate has lucifer here:

et habemus firmiorem propheticum sermonem cui bene facitis adtendentes quasi lucernae lucenti in caliginoso loco donec dies inlucescat et lucifer oriatur in cordibus vestris”  Found Here

The term Lucifer in Latin, means the same as “phosphoros” in Greek, or “Morning Star” or “Day Star” in English, which is a reference to the planet Venus. This term is used both for the Lord Jesus Christ, and for other persons, especially ancient kings.  It means “Light Bearer”.

Many Christians look at the similarities between Jesus’ statement in Luke 10:18 I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” with the lament in Isaiah 14:12, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! …and conflate the two statements. This is not justified by the text, especially when taken in context.

While, at times, similar statements may be about the same event, there are other times where similar statements may actually refer to different events.

Jesus’ statement in Luke 10:18 is a reference to Satan leaving Heaven, and quickly returning to earth as he sees the preaching of the gospel threatening his dominance. This statement of the Lord is not a reference to the chief angel rebelling against the Lord, which is an event that occurred thousands of years earlier. Nor is it a reference to the war in Heaven where the fallen angels will be expelled, which is an End Times war, and has not happened as yet.

The “fallen from heaven” statement in Isaiah 14 appears to be referring to a man who once had understood and accepted the gospel, but eventually rejects it, and instead places himself in the place of Christ (the Antichrist). He actually uses his knowledge of the gospel to gain support from professing Christendom, before destroying them when he is done using them.

Very clearly the text of Isaiah 14 is referring to a man, and not an angel.

“16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

This Lucifer does other things that men do, which angels do not do. For instance, he is an earthly king, and he will die, for a time, but angels don’t die;

18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

This man dies and then is raised from the dead, like the Lord Jesus Christ, like an “abominable Branch”, or like an anti-Messiah. This person is the same person spoken of in Revelation 13:3, and 12, and is known as the Beast, or the Antichrist.

This man has land, and people to whom he belongs.  Satan is never said to “have a land”.

He has children and nephews. Angels don’t have nephews. There never has been an angel who had nephews. God Himself does not have nephews.

21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22 For I will rise up agaist them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

The context of “his chidren” is of his literal children.

The phrase “ the iniquity of their fathers”, does not mean that these are children of other men, but that their fathers consist of a line of men stretching from the distant past to the time of this man.  Very likely this man will trace his ancestry through Mohammad all the way back to Abraham’s first son, Ishmael.  The “God of his fathers” in Daniel 11:37 is a reference to a long line of men who followed a false god, Allah, and rejected the true God; Jesus Christ.

The passage is consistent throughout that the person in view is an earthly king, a ruler. There is not a hint in the passage that this man is of supernatural origin.

The passage in question says that the person who is its subject is “a man”, and I do believe this. This means that there is a man, a descendant of Adam, who is known as “Lucifer”. In this sense “Lucifer” is a title rather than a name.

Logic dictates that something cannot be “A” and “Not A” at the same time.  He can’t be a man (a natural being) and an angel ( a supernatural being) at the same time.

It therefore follows that if “Lucifer” is the correct translation of “Heylel” then Lucifer cannot be the chief fallen angel. This is logic, and the only possible solution if the KJV is correct.

Calling Lucifer the “chief fallen angel” is to carry on the Roman lie.  Organizations that characterize themselves as “Luciferian” are following a fictitious god, but they will jump on board when the Antichrist arises!

We need to stop believing Roman fables, and such is the case with the historic Lucifer. The name “Lucifer” in relation to the chief fallen angel, does not appear in Scripture. To equate it as such is to take-on extra-biblical theology. (hint: this is a bad thing!)

Lucifer is another word for “day star” or “morning star” and is synonymous with titles that Jesus takes for Himself. This does NOT mean that the person in Isaiah 14 is Jesus, but rather he is someone who wants people to view himself as “the Son of God”, or as a replacement for Jesus!

So, the KJV is correct; “Lucifer” is a legitimate translation of the Hebrew “Heylel”. It is our own understanding of words which are often the cause of erroneous interpretations. Just because we are familiar with a particular term it does not necessarily follow that we truly do understand the biblical use of that word!

By the way, the only way we can understand the Bible is through the Holy Spirit. We cannot understand it as fleshly people, but we have to rely on the Spirit of God to interpret it for us. You might say that this makes it subject to the interpretations of men, but in amongst the interpretations of men there are the true interpretations of the Holy Spirit. Only those who have the Spirit can really understand.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. I Corinthians 2:14

The unified prophecy of Isaiah 1-3

I have to confess that I made an error. I guess when you read a chapter a day, sometimes you forget what you read the day before, or don’t connect it to the next chapter. I did this with Isaiah 2-4, and having read through Isaiah several times, I didn’t see that this section is one complete prophecy until this week.

Having read, from time to time, other authors on the same passage, sometimes it is difficult to reject what we have read and simply accept the text for what it says.  So we read books by well meaning people who are sometimes mistaken in one place or other.

I have stated that Isaiah 3 starts with a condemnation of ancient Israel, and then changes to modern Israel, by the end of the chapter. This was wrong.

Isaiah chapter two through four is one complete End Times prophecy; The whole section is about modern Israel.

Chapter 5 is a separate prophecy that goes back to ancient Israel, the Israel of Isaiah’s time, but the preceding three chapters concern the times in which we live.

Chapter 2 begins with a clear End Times statement;

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

This is actually a statement about the millennial reign of Christ, but then the prophet goes back a bit, but not all the way back to ancient Israel. The condemnations could be about ancient Israel, since their sins were the same, but this is the Israel of today and of the Tribulation period;

10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.

19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

Jesus actually referred to this event in Revelation, which identifies the context as End Times;

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: Revelation 6:16

But in case we didn’t get it, He tells us plainly that this is an End Times prophecy, right in the text itself;

12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

You see the one little word I missed, and which a lot of people miss, all the time, is the little word “For”, at the beginning of the next chapter. This word connects the previous chapter with the next. The whole of chapter 3 is a condemnation of modern Israel, and it is the reason that the Day of the Lord, the Great Tribulation, comes upon Israel, and the world.

In fact the conditions of chapter 3 have not quite been met in modern Israel, just yet. We are not yet at the time it speaks about, but it is a time within decades of where we are now, if not years!

9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

No doubt the gay pride parades in Tel Aviv are a fulfilment of this verse, but there is something that has not happened yet in the passage;

All Israel will be gathered at this time, but as yet there are still millions of Israelites living in other countries around the world. Many of them are living as Muslims, in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, and are constrained by the moral system of Islam. Verses 12 through 23 refer to a time when the people of Israel have thrown off the shackles of Islam, and have gone wild!

The time referred to is the time following the Psalm 83, and Ezekiel 38-39 wars with Islam. After these two major victories against Islam and the west, Israel will think of themselves as invincible.

Instead of realizing that it is the Lord who has protected them from their enemies, they will view the victory of Psalm 83 as their own, and the defeat of the Gog/Magog coalition as God’s approval of their theology!

God does not approve of Jewish theology, He is merely protecting them. He is keeping His promises to the patriarchs, to preserve a remnant of Israel, and He will do it. This does not mean that He approves of traditional Judaism, but rather He is going to bring the Day of the Lord upon them in order to correct their theology!

Armageddon makes an appearance in chapter 3 verses 24-26.

24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. 25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

When the Antichrist sets up his abomination of desolation, his idol, in the Temple in Jerusalem, Jesus told His followers to flee to the hills.

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. Matthew 24:15-18

The believers of Israel will obey Jesus at this point, and Zechariah (13:8) tells us that it will be 1/3 of the nation. The unbelievers will be split in two, with one group supporting the Beast and the false prophet, but the rest picking-up arms against them. After almost two thousand years without a Temple, many Jews will pick-up arms at this offence.

Knowing human nature, I am sure that some “believers” will tell their wives to go into the wilderness for protection, while they stay behind to fight for Israel’s honour. They will die for their trouble.

This End Times civil war in Israel will result in Armageddon, with the nations of the earth joining in the attack.  While many will support the Beast, some may actually go to fight him, but in any case most will die there.

At the end of Armageddon, the survivors of Israel will exist in a ratio of seven women to one man. No doubt the rest of the world will be in a similar situation, since most armies consist entirely of men, and the ones that do allow women usually have no more than 10% female conscripts, nevertheless, the prophecy specifically concerns Israel.

This 7:1 female:male ratio is the ratio that Jesus will find on the earth when He returns and sets up His kingdom, and is the reason for Isaiah 4:1, and remember that Isaiah did not insert chapter divisions when he wrote his book, they were added later. The thought that ends chapter 3 is the same thought that begins chapter 4;

1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

What is it when a woman takes a man’s name? Isn’t that when she is marries him?  Of course it is!

The “reproach” in this passage is the same reproach that the barren women of the bible feel.

This is the same “reproach” that Rachel referred to when she was pregnant with Joseph;

And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: Genesis 30:23

And Elizabeth when she conceived John in her old age;

Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. Luke 1:25

It is natural for women to feel reproach when they can’t conceive.  Our western society has repressed this feeling in many women, by constant propaganda to the contrary, but a woman’s greatest contribution to society is to have children, and to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

God has placed in women the desire for a husband and children.  This is the same desire referred to in Daniel 11:37, and while the Antichrist will inherit a world in a similar condition as Jesus Christ, his response will be the opposite.

In places like Europe when wars have killed off many men, as in World Wars 1 and 2, women often felt they had to resort to seduction to attract a man and have a family.

These women, in Isaiah 4, are entering the millennial reign of Christ, and immoral behaviour will not be tolerated. Besides this, of course, is the fact that these women will be 100% believers, and this is behaviour that would not even be considered. So, what is being described to us in Isaiah 4:1 is God’s solution to their problem; polygamy, or more properly polygyny. God’s ratio for families in that day will be one man for seven women!

Polygyny was not God’s perfect plan in the Garden of Eden, but is a result of sin entering the world.   Wars often leave more women than men, and polygamy was the solution to the problem in ancient Israel, and even in much of the rest of the world, as a result. 

The greatest time of sin in the future is the Tribulation period, and the destruction of Armageddon is the result. God’s solution for the survivors of this particular generation, is polygyny, but they themselves will have children in the same ratio that people have always had them, about 50:50.

After this time there will be one woman for every man, and there will be no need for polygamy in succeeding generations. The existence of these families of one man with seven wives will serve as proof of the events of the Tribulation. In the generations following, young people will be able to talk with their ancestors and ask them about the Tribulation and Armageddon, and the existence of these unusual families will be evidence that what they are saying is true.

Many of these families will live for the entire thousand years of the millennial reign, and thus their eye-witness accounts will stand as a warning to their descendants for the entire age in which they live!

In case you doubt what I am saying read the rest of the chapter;

2 In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. 3 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: 4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. 5 And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. 6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

In that day” means either “at a time immediately following, and directly resulting from” or “at the same time”. In this case the phrase in verse1 has the first meaning, but in verse 2 it is the second. No one will be thinking of getting married and starting a family during the Tribulation, but the 7:1 families will occur as Jesus is setting up His kingdom and He will approve of it.

The Branch of the Lord, is the Old Testament title for the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who is ruling the earth at this time.

The rest of the chapter is a description of life in the millennial kingdom. Notice that verse 4 talks about the Lord “shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion”. Notice tht they are called “holy”. These are the very same women from verse 1, who desire to be one of seven wives. This is a very great change from their attitude in chapter 3:16 where they thought they could have any man they wanted;

Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

These are changed people. The Tribulation, and the Holy Spirit, have done their work, and God has kept his promises to the people of Israel, and to the people of the earth!

Unfortunately, many in the Church today have placed their traditions above the Word of God, and thus God has set a trap for them in Daniel 11:36-37.  Their ignorance of His word will lead them to support the Antichrist!

This is why I have written my book, and this blog; to warn the Church of what is coming, so you are not taken-in by the wiles of the devil!  And my error, which I spoke of at the beginning?  It is not serious, since I did understand the main points and have passed them on to you.
