Something the Scholars Missed

Readers of this page may wonder why would a bible prophecy blog delve into the area of morality, specifically the area of marriage?

As I stated, every area touched on by Scripture has its ultimate fulfillment in End Times prophecy. This is why it is an error for pastors to ignore prophecy.

Paul stated that the End Times would be characterized by error on the subject of marriage.

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. I Timothy 4:1-3

Most bible scholars believe that this refers to the Catholic Church’s prohibition for priests and nuns to marry, and leave it at that. I think it refers to something more. In fact, I think we can find what this refers to, if we search the Scriptures.

Most prophecy scholars don’t compare the millennial reign of Jesus Christ with the reign of the Antichrist. I don’t know why. Perhaps they don’t think there is any similarity. After all, the Antichrist is evil personified, and Jesus is God in the flesh, good personified.

What they are missing is that the Antichrist will attempt to fill the shoes of Jesus Christ. As a counterfeit, he will do what he can to meet the expectations of people who were raised in and around Christian homes, in societies that pride themselves as being Judeo-Christian. He will look like a Christian on the surface, it is only when you dig into the Word of God that you will see some differences.

For years I had wondered about what Daniel 11:36-37 means by the phrase “the desire of women”. Many scholars think that this means that he will be a homosexual. That is too obvious, and would be something that most evangelicals, and fundamentalists, would not be fooled by. No, it means something else.

And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. Daniel 11:36-37

The only way we can understand this passage is to dig deep into Scripture. Read about Sarah’s desire in Genesis 16, and how she wanted a child so desperately that she was willing to allow her husband to marry another woman, just so she could call the resulting child her own. It didn’t turn out as she had planned, but her actions were still governed by her deep desire to have a child.

Lot’s daughters had the same desire, and as a result seduced their father, because there was no other man around. (Genesis 19:30-36)

Rachel and Leah had the same desire, and did exactly the same thing with their maids as Sarah, in Genesis 30.

Tamar, Judah’s daughter in law, seduced her father in law, when she knew he was not going to provide her with another husband, after her first two had died. Read the story in Genesis chapter 38.

Hannah, Samuel’s mother, was so desperate that the priest of Israel thought she was drunk, as she was praying. She wasn’t drunk, but she was barren, and was desperate to have a child. So desperate that she promised to give her firstborn to the Lord. A promise she kept, by the way. (1 Samuel 1 & 2)

Elizabeth, John the Baptist’s mother, was still hoping for a child in her old-age. Her conception of John was a miracle granted to her by the Lord Himself. The story is found in Luke chapter 1.

In each of these cases these women had the exact same desire, the same desire Daniel is describing in verse 37 of Chapter 11. Simply, it is the desire to have a child, preferably by her husband.  Notice also the use of the word “reproach” in Genesis 30:23, and Luke 1:25, is exactly the same use as is found in Isaiah 4:1.

What does it mean that the Antichrist “does not regard” this desire? Don’t forget he is a king. A law maker. Remember that he will arise in a similar manner as the return of Christ. He will show up at a time when the world is recovering from a devastating war. A war that many will identify as having been Armageddon.

What is one of the characteristics of wars, throughout history? People die. Which gender generally suffers most in war? Generally it is the men who go to war, who die in the greatest numbers. With the advent of strategic bombing, women have not been as isolated from war as they had been in the past, but if the war is largely confined to the battlefield, the women can be hundreds, or even thousands, of miles away in relative safety.

While watching M*A*S*H one day, I noticed an interchange between the characters Klinger and B.J. Honeycutt.  In this episode Klinger’s wife was leaving him for his best friend, and Klinger was distraught. B.J. Responds to him that “there are plenty more fish in the sea” and Klinger responds “That’s right! There are a lot more women than men in the U.S.A.!” When he said that I realized that what he was saying was based on a historic truth.

The TV show M*A*S*H was based on events in the Korean “police action” of June 1950 – July 1953. This conflict came only five years after the end of the second World War. The USA lost some 405,399 men during WW2, resulting in approximately 405,399 extra women who had no man to marry.

Of course we all know of war brides who married American servicemen they met in their own countries, in either Europe, Africa or Asia. This compounded the problem for American women.  With so many unattached women around it is no mystery why the divorce rate went up after that war.

Klinger was correct, there were more women than men in the USA, in the immediate aftermath of World War 2!

This very same situation is prophesied to occur after the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39. As I have laid out in several other articles, this war is likely to be the Armageddon stand-in which will give rise to the Antichrist.

Here is the result of this war;

1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: 3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. 4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 39:1-5

One sixth of the armies of the Russo-Iranian coalition will survive the war to return home. This will leave six women for every man who makes it home. This will be the time that the Antichrist is first making his mark on the world scene.

The nations who are listed in Ezekiel 38-39 are mostly Muslim today. As the reader is well aware, the Muslim nations universally practice polygamy. When the surviving soldiers return home they, and the women they encounter will expect that things will be as before, and that they will just have to share men, six women per man. It has always been this way in those countries.

This brings us to another situation described in Scripture. This time it is another, related, war…Armageddon.

Isaiah 3-4 is an interesting passage. It starts with God’s anger with ancient Israel, and describes His reasons for scattering them, then it seamlessly transitions into the future war of Armageddon. Some of the verses have a dual application, both for the ancient world and the future. You see, the reasons that God scattered Israel will not have been dealt with by the time they finally, fully return. God will deal with them during the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, also known as The Great Tribulation.

Study these verses carefully;

And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty. 25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war. 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground. Isaiah 3:24 – 26

Chapter 4

1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

Notice that these women are not asking for illicit affairs. They want the name of this man. A practice that is common with marriage. Women don’t take a man’s name unless they are married to him.

Notice also that they are not asking him to chose one of them, but that they all will take his name.

The reason is spelled out in verse 25 of the preceding chapter. Their men are mostly dead. Most of their men have died in the war. Lest you think this is an ancient war, read the next verses:

2 In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

Who is the branch of the Lord? There is only one person in Scripture that this can refer to, the Messiah, Jesus Christ! Notice that this is the second coming of Christ, for this very same author tells us that He will NOT be beautiful and glorious at His first coming!

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. Isaiah 53:2

Jesus was a normal man at his first coming. Isaiah 4 leaves no doubt that the events it describes are specifically timed at His second coming!

3 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: 4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

The seven women of verse 1 are the very same women verse 4 speaks of, who have had their filth washed away. Both these women, and the men they marry, are holy men and women of God, survivors of the Tribulation and Armageddon.

There will be no unbelievers who survive the Tribulation, not even one! Every person mentioned in Isaiah 4:1 will be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ! I can also assure you, that having seen the destruction of Armageddon first hand, these seven women will not be asking to marry this man, without first clearing it with the Lord Himself! Yes! Jesus will care about the desire of women!

For those who still don’t get it, “the desire of women” is spelled out for us in Isaiah 4:1.

5 And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. 6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

None of the situations described in this entire chapter have yet occurred, and will not occur, until the millennial kingdom is established.

So now we have a definite answer to the puzzle left to us by Daniel 11:37. The Antichrist will not “regard”, or concern himself with, the desire of women, while Jesus Christ, at His return will! The Antichrist will ban polygamy in the nations he is responsible for, in the aftermath of the Gog and Magog war.

While there will be some similarities between the reigns of Jesus Christ, and the Antichrist, this is one area where they are miles apart!

The problem is that because Christians have accepted the lies of Rome on the subject of marriage, most will not understand what is going on when the Antichrist bans polygamy. Their made-up “Jesus” would be more like the Antichrist, than the Jesus of the bible!  Most will think this is a sign of a Man-of-God!

When this Arab leader shows up, and imposes this type of law on his subjects, the west will applaud him, and will mark “X” on their ballot, beside his name, to accept him as the world leader!

They thought they were Christians, but they didn’t believe the Word of God!

And so, because of this very issue, Catholics, Protestants, Charismatics, Evangelicals, and Fundamentalists will be able to unite to crown the Antichrist!
