The Isaiah 14 controversy

In this third instalment of our series on the bible version controversy, I want to take a look at a passage that has changed in the new versions, Isaiah 14. The following started off as an introduction to part 3 of Brian Sirois’ article, but it turned into an article in its own right. . . too long to be a mere introduction. I will get back to Mr. Sirois’ article in a few days…

The Isaiah 14 controversy centres over one word translated as “Lucifer” in the AV, and other reformation era bibles.

The translation of הֵילֵל (helel) as “Lucifer” comes from an old Jewish tradition, but the insertion of “Morning Star”, or “Daystar”, also comes from ancient Jewish traditions dating from around the same time.

According to Strongs, הֵילֵל can indeed be translated as “Light bearer” which is the meaning of Lucifer.

It can also mean “Morning Star”, and “Daystar”. So which is it?

The answer is not found in translation, but in the context of the passage itself. The AV translation is based on one old tradition, but the modern version translations are also based on other equally old traditions. One of these traditions actually does damage to the cause of Christ.

Here is the AV rendering;

12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Here is the Czech Kralicka, a bible from the same generation as the AV. You don’t have to be able to read Czech to understand their conclusion on the issue;

12Jakž to, že jsi spadl s nebe, ó lucifeře v jitře vycházející? Poražen jsi až na zem, ještos zemdlíval národy.

Even the New King James translated this word as “Lucifer”, and some of the members of this translation committee had also served on the NIV committee. Obviously there are still modern translators who understand that this word can be translated either way. Linguistically, neither group is wrong.

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer) says about this translation;

“Translation of הֵילֵל as “Lucifer”, as in the King James Version, has been abandoned in modern English translations of Isaiah 14:12. Present-day translations have “morning star” (New International Version, New Century Version, New American Standard Bible, Good News Translation, Holman Christian Standard Bible, Contemporary English Version, Common English Bible, Complete Jewish Bible), “daystar” (New Jerusalem Bible, English Standard Version, The Message), “shining one” (New Life Version) or “shining star” (New Living Translation).”

The issue is not which is a legitimate translation, but who is this passage referring to? The answer to that question can actually be found in the text. A close examination reveals who it is referring to, if you cross-reference with the book of Revelation. Since the ancient Jewish scribes did not have Revelation to compare to, they must be excused for the confusion their interpretations have caused.

Who does the AV say is the Morning Star?

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16

So does the NIV, by the way;

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

So while they changed the identity of the person in Isaiah 14, they didn’t in the book of Revelation. The NIV is actually saying that the person in Isaiah 14 is Jesus. So are all the other new versions, including those that use Daystar. Jesus is also known as the day star.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the daydawn, and the day stararise in your hearts: II Peter 1:19

Does the text bear any similarity to Jesus? Let’s have a look;

3And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve, 4That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

The timing of this passage is in the distant future. “The day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve”is a reference to the end of the Tribulation period, and the beginning of the millennial reign of Christ. This “king of Babylon” is an End Times king. Not Nebuchadnezzar, or some other ancient Babylonian king.

5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. 6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

This person has been broken by the Lord Himself. Haters of Jesus Christ would hope that it is Jesus in view here, but it isn’t!

This “king of Babylon” ruled the nations in anger. In fact he ruled over rulers. Similar to Jesus’ rule in the future, but no similarity to Jesus at his first coming. This person’s rule will be characterized by anger and violence.

7 The whole earth is at rest,and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

The conditions of verse seven will not occur on this planet until the Millennial reign of Christ begins. Wars have been prophesied until the end of man’s rule, so for the earth to be at peace and quiet will not occur until Jesus returns. The problem here is that someone else will first rule the world, and will claim to bring peace and quiet. That person is actually the one in view in this passage, not Jesus.

9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?

Jesus went to Hell, didn’t he? So, couldn’t this be Jesus? No, actually. Jesus went to Hell in triumph. He went there to release the believers who had been incarcerated in Abraham’s bosom, until Justice was satisfied at the cross. This person is as weak as the people who are addressing him. In fact they know who he is. It is likely they are people who were killed in some of his wars. Rivals and leaders of his opposition.

11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

I think this is why this person is identified as “Lucifer” in many bibles, the translators are looking at the phrase “How art thou fallen from heaven”, and thinking that this indicates he is a fallen angel, since he has “fallen from Heaven”. There is another explanation for this statement that few have considered; this person has fallen from Heaven in the sense that, at one time in his life, he understood, and professed to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact I would argue that he has a complete understanding of the gospel, so much so that he is able to produce a believable counterfeit!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Yes indeed, Lucifer wants to be worshipped as God, but he is not alone. Lucifer has a partner who wants the same thing. Daniel 11:36 tells us that the Antichrist “… shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods”. This person is to Satan, what Jesus Christ is to God the Father, and it is he who is the subject of Isaiah 14. “The king of Babylon” will be one of his official titles, or at least one of his functions.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Lucifer is a powerful angelic being, a cherub, but this person is a man. This man has caused the earth to tremble, and his actions will shake-up the whole world. Though he lifts up himself as God, Though he will be at the peak of human political power, he will die and spend time in Hell, just like the other world rulers.

This ruler will not release his prisoners. They will die in custody. He will destroy everyone he finds who professes faith in Christ. (Daniel 7:25, Revelation 13:7)

Helel is not exactly like those he meets in hell, however, for his stay in hell is rather short;

18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

The kings of the earth, even the evil ones, get a burial with some kind of honour, and some kind of memorial. This man is thrown out of his grave like an “abominable branch”. Who is the “Branch”? This is a term for the Messiah, Jesus, found in Isaiah 4:2, 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5, 33:15, Zechariah 3:8, and 6:12.

The word “abominable” indicates that while this person is like the Branch in some ways, he is really the opposite. Something that is abominable is detestable, disgusting, worse than useless! This is the anti-Branch, the Antichrist!

Just as Jesus was raised from the dead, this casting “out of thy grave” is not about his body being destroyed, but actually a prophecy about his resurrection! Just as the Branch was raised from the dead, the Antichrist will also be raised from the dead. While many scholars have stated that they believe that the Antichrist’s resurrection will be faked, this passage indicates that it will, in fact, be genuine. (Revelation13:3, 12)

Verse 20 indicates that this man’s body will not be buried like the other kings in Hell. This is because he will be resurrected, but then 3 and a half years later, he will be picked up and thrown into the Lake of Fire. The rest of the kings of the earth, and their armies, will spend their time in Hell until Judgment Day, at the end of the Millennial reign, then they will join the Antichrist in the Lake of Fire.

21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22 For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD. 23 I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.

This wind-up passage tells us that the Antichrist’s family will also suffer the wrath of God. So much so, that there will not be anyone left to inherit the land that was allotted to their ancestors. As I have stated, I believe the Antichrist will be from the tribe of Edom, founded by Jacob’s brother Esau. This same fate is prophesied for the descendants of Esau;

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it. Obadiah 1:18

There are a lot of possibilities as to why the king of Babylon could come from Edom. He could conquer Babylon (Iraq), or he could start off as being a United Nations appointed governor, after a major war, such as the Psalm 83 war, for instance. Just as the Queen of Canada was not born in Canada, the king of Babylon does not need to be of Babylonian stock, nor even born in that nation.

I think history will prove that this man will actually have been born in the city of seven mountains, today known as Amman.

So, is the Authorized Version incorrect for using Lucifer in Isaiah 14? Well, yes, and no. The person involved is not Lucifer, but they are actually more correct than the modern bible versions. This person is Lucifer’s closest associate on the earth.

The modern bibles will actually be used by the Antichrist to “prove” that Jesus was the Antichrist, and that he is the legitimate Messiah. He will not be able to use this passage in the King James bible, however, because it would not support such a conclusion.

It may not be the deliberate intention of the modern translators, nevertheless, the NIV, NCV, NASB, et al have turned out to be Antichrist bibles! If you are using one, I recommend you get a copy of the AV, and a good dictionary.

The Bible Version Controversy #2

This is the second installment in Brian Sirois’ article about the history of the Jesuit involvement with the modern bible versions. Mr. Sirois’ original article can be found at http://kjv.landmarkbiblebaptist.net/Sirois/1.html

I confess I have made some spelling changes, and I also removed a reference to Gail Riplinger’s book “New Age Bible Versions”. I hope Mr. Sirois will forgive me, but I believe the author was ignorant of Mrs. Riplinger’s attacks on a large number of Christians. I would recommend to Mr. Sirois that he remove all references to Mrs. Riplinger from his article as well.

I met Mr. Waite a few years ago at a meeting in Brantford, Ontario, and sat at his table at lunch. My impression of him is that he is a humble servant of God, and a true scholar. In fact, at that time he was actually defending Mrs. Riplinger. Some of her claims, such as verbal plenary inspiration of the KJB, were not well known at the time.

While I disagree with Mr. Waite on the issue of alcohol and the Christian, and can defend my beliefs through extensive use of the King James Bible, I am in complete agreement with him on the issue of the King James bible itself. Read the first article above, and you will see a comparison of what Mr. Waite teaches about the bible, versus what Mrs. Riplinger teaches.

The fact is that there is some truth in Mrs. Riplinger’s book. It is not the truth that is the issue here, but the lies. I personally believe that people like Gail Riplinger, and Peter Ruckman, are tools of Satan intended to tar all users of the Authorized Version with the same brush. Satan can’t stop everyone from using the AV, but he can make us look bad using “guilt by association”. “Oh, you use the outdated KJB? You must be one of those whackos like Riplinger and Ruckman!”. This way he can keep as many young people as possible from using this prince of bibles!

In my next instalment I will tackle a supposed error in the AV, and the replacement found in the modern versions. There is prophetic, End Times, significance to the replacement. You will be surprised at what they have done!

Beyond Blasphemy: The Bridge to Babylon

PART 3 — THE JESUITS:

As opposition to the catholic church grew, the pope became desperate for a solution to his Protestant problem! In 1534, a man named Ignatius Loyola founded a radical society of catholics whos purpose was to fight against the Protestant Reformers.

On September 27th, 1540, Pope Paul the III formally established the Jesuits as a official catholic organization. Part of the Jesuit oath says,

“My son, heretofore you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to be a spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man. Among the Reformers, to be a Reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among other Protestants, generally to be a Protestant; and obtaining their confidence, to seek even to preach from their pulpits, and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and even to descend so low as to become a Jew among Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for the benefit of your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope. You have been taught to plant insidiously the seeds of jealousy and hatred between communities, provinces, states that were at peace, and to incite them to deeds of blood, involving them in war with each other, and to create revolutions and civil wars in countries that were independent and prosperous, cultivating the arts and the sciences and enjoying the blessings of peace; to take sides with the combatants and to act secretly with your brother Jesuit, who might be engaged on the other side, but openly opposed to that with which you might be connected, only that the Church might be the gainer in the end, in the conditions fixed in the treaties for peace and that the end justifies the means. You have been taught your duty as a spy, to gather all statistics, facts and information in your power from every source; to ingratiate yourself into the confidence of the family circle of Protestants and heretics of every class and character, as well as that of the merchant, the banker, the lawyer, among the schools and universities, in parliaments and legislatures, and the judiciaries and councils of state, and to be all things to all men, for the Pope’s sake, whose servants we are unto death. You have received all your instructions heretofore as a novice, a neophyte, and have served as co-adjurer, confessor and priest, but you have not yet been invested with all that is necessary to command in the Army of Loyola in the service of the Pope. You must serve the proper time as the instrument and executioner as directed by your superiors; for none can command here who has not consecrated his labours with the blood of the heretic; for “without the shedding of blood no man can be saved”. Therefore, to fit yourself for your work and make your own salvation sure, you will, in addition to your former oath of obedience to your order and allegiance to the Pope” END-QUOTE. (excerpt of the Jesuit Extreme Oath of Induction as recorded in the Journals of the 62nd Congress, 3rd Session, of the United States Congressional Record (House Calendar No. 397, Report No. 1523, 15 February, 1913, pp. 3215-3216)).

From 1545 to 1564 the Council of Trent met and condemned the enemies of the catholic church. In the 4th session they stated,

“Futhermore, to check unbridled spirits, it decrees that no one relying on his won judgment shall, in matters of faith and morals pertaining to the edification of christian doctrine, distorting the Holy Scriptures in accordance with his own conceptions. Presume to interpret them contrary to that sense which holy mother church to whom it belongs to judge of their true sense and interpretation…

“…[this council] decrees and ordains that in the future the Holy Scriptures, especially the old Vulgate edition, be printed in the most correct manner possible, and that it shall not lawful for anyone to print or to have printed any books whatsoever dealing with sacred doctrinal matters without the name of the author, or in the future to sell them, or even to have them in possession, unless they have first been examined and approved by the ordinary, under penalty of anathema and fine prescribed by the last council of the Lateran.”

In 1605, the Jesuits tried to assassinate King James and the members of parliament. On the morning of November the 5th, Guy Fawkes was discovered by an act of God, with 36 barrows of gun powder, which was hidden under the floor in which King James would be standing in a matter of hours. The conspirators were captured and executed. God protected King James and the translators.

But the Jesuits had another plan, if the people of England wanted a Bible, then they (the Jesuits) would give them one. The Jesuit’s Douay–Rheims Bible! The “Rheims” NT was released in 1582 and the whole Bible was finished in 1610, exactly one year before the Authorized Version (King James) of 1611.

Which almost all of the changes found in the newer version match that of the Jesuit’s Douay–Rheims Bible from 1610!

PART 4 — Westcott & Hort:

A) In 1871, The church of England decided that the King James Version should be revised. Two unsaved scholars, Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort, would see to it that a whole new translation would be made to replace the King James Authorized Version.

They used mainly “4” manuscripts to make this new translations. These manuscripts used were ROMAN CATHOLIC MANUSCRIPTS!!!

There corrupt “Revised Version” was released in 1881.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BELIEFS OF WESTCOTT AND HORT???

Dr. William Grady said it best in his excellent book, Final Authority…

“Wescott and Hort, were a pair of unsaved liberals whose open Vatican sympathies cast them as the consummate Jesuit plants.”

B) In 1896, a collection of Hort’s letters was published by his son in two volumes. The book entitled “Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort” by his son Arthur Fenton Hort.

In Vol. 1 on page 76 we read,

“The pure Romish view seems to me nearer, and more likely to lead to, the truth than the Evangelical;”

On page 148, Hort said,

“…the ordinary confused evangelical notions, tho’ I would on no account alter the prayer book of catechism to make them more palatable to them.”

On page 400, Hort admits that,

“The positive doctrines even of the evangelicals seem to me perverted rather than untrue. There are, I fear, still serious differences between us on the subject of authority, and especially the authority of the Bible,”

On page 445, Hort says,

“I have a sort of craving that our text should be cast upon the world before we deal with matters likely to brand us with suspicion. I mean, a text, issued by men already known for what will undoubtedly be treated as dangerous heresey, will have great difficulties in finding its way to regions which it might otherwise hope to reach, and whence it would not be easily banished by subsequent alarms.”

Hort shows his hatred for the TRUE Greek Text on page 211, were he states,

“I had no idea till last few weeks of the importance of texts, having read so little Greek Testament, and dragged on with the villainous Textus Receptus. Westcott recommended me to get Bagster’s Critical, which has Scholz’s Text, and is most convenient in small quarto, with parallel Greek and English, and a wide margin on purpose for notes. This pleased me much; so many little alterations on good MS. authority made things clear not in a vulgar, notional way, but by giving a deeper and fuller meaning. But after all scholz is very capricious and sparing in introducing good readings; and Tischendorf I find a great acquisition, above all, because he gives various readings at the bottom of his page, and his prolegomena are invaluable. Think of that vile Textus Receptus leaning entirely on late MSS; it is a blessing there are such early ones…”

In a letter to Westcott, Hort says on Page 430,

“Certainly nothing can be more unscriptural than the modern limiting of Christ’s bearing our sins and suffering to His death; but indeed that is only one aspect of an almost universal heresy.”

On page 120, Hort declares,

“The fact is, I do not see how God’s justice can be satisfied without every man’s suffering in his own person the full penalty for his sins. I know that it can, for if it could not in the case of some at least, the whole Bible would be a lie; but if in the case of some, why not in the case of all?”

Hort clearly did not believe that the death of Jesus on the cross was not enough to pay for his sins!!!

C) What about WESTCOTT, what did he believe???

In 1903, Westcott’s son “Arthur Westcott” published his fathers letters in a two volume book entitled, “Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westcott.”

On pages 228-229, Westcott told Hort what he thought of the Textus Receptus,

“I feel most keenly the disgrace of circulating what I feel to be falsified copies of the Holy Scripture, and am most anxious to provide something to replace them.”

He then went on to say on that same page,

“But pray think how utterly ignorant and prejudiced even well-informed men are on the text of the New Testament.”

On page 52, Westcott said,

“I never read an account of a miracle but I seem instinctively to feel its improbability, and discover some want of evidence in the account of it.”

In volume 2, on page 49 Westcott gives his view on Heaven, he writes,

“..it saves us from the error of connecting the presence of Christ’s glorified humanity with place: ‘heaven is a state and not a place.’ I cannot therefore but think that you should require the most exact rending of the whole.”

On page 394, Westcott states,

“If Tennyson’s idea of heaven was true, that ‘heaven is the ministry of the soul to soul,’ we may reasonable hope, by patient, resolute, faithful, united endeavour, to find heaven about us here, the glory of our earthly life.”

Westcott shows his love for ROMAN CATHOLICISM on page 81, when he writes,

“After leaving the monastery we shaped our course to a little oratory which we discovered on the summit of neighbouring hill, and by a little scrambling we reached it. Fortunately we found the door open. It is very small, with one kneeling–place; and behind a screen was a “Pietà” the size of life (i.e. a virgin and dead Christ). The sculpture was painted, and such a group in such a place and at such a time was deeply impressive. I could not help thinking on the fallen grandeur of the Romish Church, on her zeal even in error, on her earnestness and self-devotion, which we might nobler views and a purer end, strive to imitate. Had I been alone I could have knelt there for hours.”

It is truly sad that a intelligent man like Westcott could not bring him self to believe in Heaven or miracles!!

D) But Westcott and Hort was involved in something far more sinister. In 1845, they joined the “Hermes Club.” In 1851, they formed the “Ghostly Guild,” which was followed by the Eranus Club in 1872. These clubs were involved in the occult and in necromancy!!! Necromancy is communicating with dead spirits.

Why would two men who claimed to be saved, have such an interest in the spirit world and the occult??? Should a Christian trust a text or a Bible traced back to these two men??? Westcott and Hort’s corrupt Greek Text and textual criticism theories would go on to produce over 400 new versions of the Bible in the next 120 years!!

E) Facts about Westcott and Hort:

Brooke Foss Westcott (1825-1901) and Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828-1892) were the two English “scholars” who produced the corrupt Greek text of the modern versions. Their dominating influence on the revision committee of 1871-1881 accounts for most of the corruption that we have today in modern translations. The Bible believer should keep several points in mind when discussing these two men. The following information is well documented in Final Authority, by William Grady, and in Les Garrett’s Which Bible Can We Trust?

1. Together, the Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westcott and the Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort run over 1,800 pages. A personal salvation testimony is not given once for either man, and the name “Jesus” is found only nine times!

2. Westcott was a firm believer in Mary worship, and Hort claimed that Mary worship had a lot in common with Jesus worship.

3. Hort believed in keeping Roman Catholic sacraments.

4. Hort believed in baptismal regeneration as taught in the Catholic church.

5. Hort rejected the infallibility of Scripture.

6. Hort took great interest in the works of Charles Darwin, while both he and Westcott rejected the literal account of Creation.

7. Westcott did not believe in the Second Coming of Christ, the Millennium, or a literal Heaven.

8. Both men rejected the doctrine of a literal Hell, and they supported prayers for the dead in purgatory.

9. Hort refused to believe in the Trinity.

10. Hort refused to believe in angels.

11. Westcott confessed that he was a communist by nature.

12. Hort confessed that he hated democracy in all it’s forms.

13. Westcott also did his share of beer drinking. In fact, only twelve years after the Revised Version was published, Westcott was a spokesman for a brewery.

14. While working on their Greek text (1851-1871), and while working on the Revision Committee for the Revised Version (1871-1881), Westcott and Hort were also keeping company with “seducing spirits and doctrines of devils” (I Tim. 4:1). Both men took great interest in occult practices and clubs. They started the Hermes Club in 1845, the Ghostly Guild in 1851, and Hort joined a secret club called The Apostles in the same year. They also started the Eranus Club in 1872. These were spiritualists groups which believed in such unscriptural practices as communicating with the dead (necromancy).

15. The Westcott and Hort Greek text was SECRETLY given to the Revision Committee.

16. The members of the Revision Committee of 1881 were sworn to a pledge of secrecy in regard to the new Greek text being used, and they met in silence for ten years.

17. The corrupt Greek text of Westcott and Hort was not released to the public until just five days before the debut of the Revised Version. This prevented Bible-believing scholars like Dean Burgon from reviewing it and exposing it for the piece of trash that it was.

QUESTION: Does this sound like an HONEST work of God or a DISHONEST work of the Devil?

Sunni Shia split rears its head in Egypt

For years I have noted that the Psalm 83 war will not include Iran. Persia, or Elam, (Iran) is not listed in that account. I have also noted that the Sunni/Shia conflict appears to have something to do with separating Shiite Iran from the Sunni Arab world, in the Psalm’s war account.

In the last few months, after the Egyptian revolution, and the election of Mohammad Morsi as president of Egypt, there have been several overtures of friendship between Morsi and president Ahmadinejad, of Iran. In fact during Ahmadinejad’s visit to Egypt, just a few weeks ago, he was attacked by a man throwing a shoe at him. Apparently the shoe throwing incident is related to this very same conflict.

In Islam, exposing the sole of your shoe to a person is a great insult. This explains the official photo of Obama speaking with Israeli prime minister Netanyahu in 2009.

While Mubarak was president, the Sunni/Shia conflict was merely simmering in the background. Now that the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood has its man on the throne, the conflict is starting to heat up.

On March 14, the Huffington Post reported that there is some trouble brewing between Sunnis and Shiites in Egypt. Now that the Sunnis have the upper hand, and Mubarak the secularist is out, there is no reason for the Sunnis to restrain their animosity toward the Shiites.

This is a situation that I would recommend following. The newfound friendship between Egypt and Iran is only temporary. I think we will see it grow into a divide that will see Iran stay out of the Psalm 83 war confederation, which I expect we’ll see within a decade… Probably less!

The Bible Version Controversy

The bible version controversy is a thorny issue that engenders heated discussion on both sides of the debate. Since the Catholic Church has elected its first Jesuit pope, I thought it would be appropriate to publish an article that shows the involvement of the Jesuits and Roman Catholic Church, in the translation committees of many popular bibles used in Christian pulpits today.

I used the NIV paraphrase, as my personal bible, for some 12 years, and before that I used the Living Bible, another paraphrase. I had used the Authorized Version (the KJV) as a child, but I thought I had outgrown it.

It was not until I heard Dr. Donald Waite being interviewed on a radio program, that I decided to do my own research on the texts, translation methods, and translators of the bible, both modern and ancient.

My conclusion is that the most accurate, most trustworthy, the closest to the original autographs, bible in the English language is the Authorized Version, commonly referred to as the King James Bible. I can’t say it is perfect, but it is demonstrably better than anything that came after it! Furthermore I can say that it is without serious error. If there are any errors in the AV they are inconsequential.

The practise of paraphrase was only used 12 times during the translation of the AV. Paraphrase was used over 2,000 times in the NKJV, 4,000 times in the NASB, and over 6,000 times in the NIV. I would argue that it is always a problem when paraphrase is used, even in the AV. The words for “raisin cakes” is translated as “flagons of wine” in 2 Samuel 6:19 and I Chronicles 16:3 in the AV. This is a paraphrase. In this case it does not really affect an essential doctrine of the faith, but I still question its use. Didn’t the British people in 1611, know what a “raisin cake” was?

I Personally have no problem with “flagons of wine” if that was in the original, but it is not in this case. The problem with paraphrase is that this is exactly the same thing that the modern translators do in thousands of instances throughout their “translations”. As an English speaking reader you and I do not have the ability to find out where paraphrase has changed the words of the bible. I would not have been able to find out the truth about raisin cakes vs. flagons of wine, unless someone had shown it to me.

Had I continued to believe that David had handed out flagons of wine in celebration of the repatriation of the Ark of the Covenant, it would have made no difference to my Salvation. This is not an essential doctrine for Salvation, but the modern versions use this very practise in passages that do indeed affect the understanding of Salvation! They do so in passages that speak of Hell, and a number of essential doctrines.

In order to use paraphrase legitimately you have to know exactly, precisely, what the author is saying. All the modern versions have demonstrated that their translators do NOT know what the Author is saying, over and over again!

Other than those 12 instances of paraphrase, the King James translators used the Formal/Literal method of translation. This is the preferred method for any translation, especially the bible.

My objection to the modern versions is not merely the translation method, but an even more important subject is the texts that were used. The following article deals primarily with the texts and shows how the texts that underlie the modern versions are not the same text that is the basis for the Authorized Version, and the many other reformation bibles, the Textus Receptus.

He shows that the modern text, the Textus Criticus, is a doctored text, and is a sibling of the text that is favoured by the Roman Catholic Church, Spiritists, and Occultists! He argues, convincingly, that the doctored text is actually a product of the Roman Catholic Church!

These modern version often refer to the Vaticanus and Sinaiticus documents as “the most reliable manuscripts” but this is not the case. The majority of existing bible documents are in the family of the Textus Receptus, and verify the King James translations. The offending text makes up less than 5% of the existing manuscripts!

This is a big subject, and even 22 pages only skims the surface. I am familiar with all the facts as presented by Brian Sirois, and can verify that they are correct. Any differences I have with him are minor, and not worth quibbling over.

If God is NOT the author of confusion, then why do we have over 400 different Bible version in English now? And why do we have “New Age” terminology and phraseology like “As Above So Below” in the “Message Bible” in the LORD’s prayer? And why do we have people like Rupert Murdoch that own the rights to the NIV? And Why do we have people like Virginia Mollenkott, Kurt Aland, Bruce Metzger, and “Jesuit” priest Carlo M. Martini, just to name a few, involved in Bible translations? OR People like Westcott and Hort in charge of putting together new Greek manuscripts?

And why do we see stuff like this:

Total Words in KJV….790,704

Total Words in NIV…..726,606

A Difference of………… 64,098

(Including Additions & Deletions)

In an NIV, for every 11.34 words in the text there is one word missing!

Here is a good quote about this issue:

I will show and prove that this is designed to build a direct BRIDGE TO BABYLON via the New Age Movement and New Age Bible PERversions to build a ecumenical one world church that is back under the antichrist church of ROME! This has been the Jesuit plot since day one. I will even show Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky hand in all the Bible versions and her connections to Westcott and Hort.

PART 1 — The attitude of the people behind the new modern Bible PERversions with NO FEAR of the word of God:

This is the attitude: “I felt bound to abandon the God-dictated-ever-word-from-cover-to-cover attitude.”- J.B Phillips, Editor of the Phillips Bible.

“This is the sole instance of the translators departing from the accepted text. He felt bound to conclude, from the sense of the next three verses, that we have here either a slip of the pen on the part of Paul, or, more probably, a copyist’s error.” (J.B. Phillips Bible, Page 552, Note 5.)

Written by a Bible perverter and Bible corrector; this mentality is APPALLING, no reverence for the word of God!

“Ever member of the panel was conscious that some of its decisions were in no sense certain” – NEB Committee.

Rob Lacey’s Bible “The Word on the Street” by Zondervan; in the upgrades sections of his Bible, he says:

“Call it nerve, call it passion to connect, call it poetic licence, whatever. The main questions is, ‘Do the words get in the way of the story?’ If so, either change’em or insist everyone goes to evening classes on religious speak.” END-QUOTE.

Never mind the warnings in Revelation 22??! God will curse those who change His Word. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18-19)

God said, “Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.” — Jeremiah 23:30 God goes on to say, “… for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.” — Jeremiah 23:36.

PART 2 — QUICK HISTORY:

In the year 1516 A.D. a man named Desiderius Erasmus restored the TRUE Greek Text to Europe from Antioch Syria once he read the Antioch Greek Manuscript. He seen how corrupt Jerome’s Latin Vulgate was and made a whole new translation of the Greek into Latin with the Greek next to it.

Two men made translations from this text into the languages of their people. Martin Luther in Germany with his German Bible, for the German speaking people. And William Tyndale in England, for the English speaking people. Both men had to disobey the laws of the Roman Catholic Church to make their translations.

The Bible that William Tyndale began would eventually become the greatest book in the history of the world (The King James bible)!

In 1526 A.D. one evening William Tyndale was having a discussion with a Catholic Bishop on the AUTHORITY of Scripture. The Catholic Bishop said he respected the word of the Pope more then the Bible.

Tyndale’s months of study, prayer and contemplation erupted in one passionate reply, “I defy the pope and all his laws; if God spare my life ere many years, I will cause a boy that driveth the plough, shall know more of the Scripture then thou dost.“

Tyndales desire was to make the Bible available in English instead of the Latin bibles used by the Roman Catholic clergy that was used to keep the people in bondage!

In 1534 A.D. he translated the NT into English from the Greek Text of Erasmus. In 1536 A.D. William Tyndale was excuted and burnt at the stake by the Roman Catholic Church. His crime, giving the people of England the word of God in their own language. The tyrannical antichrist church of Rome could not have their authority undermined by an English Bible. William Tyndale had to be killed, if the pope wanted to remain in control of the people of England.

William Tyndale’s dying words were, “LORD open the king of England’s eyes.”

His prayer was answered; In the year of 1604, King James the 1st of England AUTHORIZED a translation of the Holy Bible into the English language. 54 of Europe’s best scholars were tasked for this, of the 54 only 47 would partake in this monumental task which would take “7” years to complete (1604 -1611).

Men like:

Lancelot Andrewes:

From Terence H. Brown, (Secretary of the Trinitarian Bible Society, London, England) comes this description of Westminster committee member Lancelot Andrewes:

He “… had his early education at Coopers Free School and Merchant Taylors School, where his rapid progress in the study of the ancient languages was brought to the notice of Dr. Watts, the founder of some scholarships at Pembroke Hall, Cambridge. Andrewes was sent to that College, where he took his B.A. degree and soon afterward was elected Fellow. He then took his Master’s degree and began to study divinity and achieved great distinction as a lecturer. He was raised to several positions of influence in the Church of England and distinguished himself as a diligent and excellent preacher, and became Chaplain to Queen Elizabeth I. King James I promoted him to be Bishop of Chester in 1605 and also gave him the influential position of Lord Almoner. He later became Bishop of Ely and Privy Counsellor. Toward the end of his life he was made Bishop of Winchester.

“It is recorded that Andrewes was a man of deep piety and that King James had such great respect for him that in his presence he refrained from the levity in which he indulged at other times. A sermon preached at Andrewes’ funeral in 1626 paid tribute to his great scholarship:

‘His knowledge in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Chaldee, Syriac and Arabic, besides fifteen modern languages was so advanced that he may be ranked as one of the rarest linguists in Christendom. A great part of five hours every day he spent in prayer, and in his last illness he spent all his time in prayer — and when both voice and eyes and hands failed in their office, his countenance showed that he still prayed and praised God in his heart, until it pleased God to receive his blessed soul to Himself.'”

John Bois:

John Bois (sometimes spelled Boys) (January 3, 1560 -January 14, 1643) is remembered mainly as one of the members of the translating committee for the Authorized Version of the Bible.

Bois was born in Nettlestead, Suffolk, England, His father was William Bois, his mother was Mirable Poolye. His father took great care about his education, and already at the age of five years John he had read the Bible in Hebrew. He was sent to school at Hadley, then went to St John’s College, Cambridge, in 1575 when he was 15 years old. He soon was proficient in Greek.

In 1580 John Bois (not to be confused with John Boys, Dean of Canterbury from 1619-1625) was elected Fellow of his College. He lectured on Greek and began to study medicine, but soon quit the study, instead he turned to divinity. On June 21, 1583 he was ordained a deacon of the Church of England. For ten years, he was Greek lecturer in his college. When he was about thirty-six years old, on October 13, 1596, he married the daughter of the rector at Boxworth and after the death of her father he took over this post. He assisted Henry Savile with the translation of the works of John Chrysostom.

In 1604 he was recruited for one of the Cambridge committees set up to translate the Bible into English. He first served in the “Cambridge Company” charged by James I of England with translating the Apocrypha for the King James Version of the Bible and later assisted the Cambridge company that translated 1 Chronicles to Song of Solomon. Six years later, when the work was done, the work was reviewed by six or twelve scholars before the final publication. Bois was one of their number. After the final editing by Miles Smith and Thomas Bilson, the Bible was then published in 1611.

In 1609 he succeeded fellow translator John Duport as prebendary of Ely while also serving as rector of Boxworth. He spent the last years of his life there. He was eighty-three when he died in Ely. He had four sons and three daughters, none of whom survived their father. His wife died two years before him.

The reference work The Dictionary of National Biography noted that John Bois wrote a manuscript that “consists of brief critical notes, in which the renderings of the Vulgate are in the main defended, but Bois frequently proposes more exact translations of his own, both Latin and English” (p. 775). John M’Clintock and James Strong noted that Bois’ only published work was “a vindication of the Vulgate version of the New Testament” (Cyclopaedia of Biblical, Theological, and Ecclesiastical, Literature, Vol. I, p. 869).

These men were set up in 6 groups; 2 at Cambridge, 2 at Westminster and 2 at Oxford. They would use the Text that would become known as the Textus Receptus (Latin: “received text”). And would complete THE BOOK, that would become the greatest Book of ALL TIME!

Forty students from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance took a classical approach to the flashmob as they flashwaltzed Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers at the new Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower in Jerusalem. Doctors, patients and passers-by joined in the fun.

The surprise concert was part of Good Deeds Day, an annual event that originated in Israel in 2007 and now takes place in over 50 countries worldwide. On this day volunteers reach out to the less fortunate and the vulnerable.

The Academy students enjoyed the day so much that they have decided to schedule regular concerts at the hospital. Hadassah Medical Organization treats over one million patients annually, without regard to race, religion or national origin.

Syrian city of Tartus in the last days

Since the beginning of the rebellion in Syria, the city of Tartus has been frequently in the news. Tartus is the major Syrian port on the Mediterranean sea, and has been frequented by Russian ships, and now appears to be Assad’s last stronghold of loyalty.

The following articles have some interesting ideas regarding the importance of Tartus, to Syria, Assad, and to Russia. I have some ideas of my own, and they relate to Tartus’ place in biblical prophecy. My comments are below;

As you may have noticed the above articles relate to Tartus’ importance as a last stand for Assad and the Alawites, or to the Russians, from a strategic perspective. I think God is about to make Tartus the capital of a new state on the shores of the Mediterranean. There is nothing in the bible that says that Syria must remain a united country.

As I stated in The Spirit of Prophecy, I expect Damascus will be destroyed during the Psalm 83 war. This will be fulfilment of Isaiah 17:1. At the time I suggested that Tartus will make an excellent replacement for Damascus, if that city should be the victim of a nuclear attack, after attacking Israel. I still think Damascus will be destroyed during that war, but I now think it is likely that Syria may actually split in two before the war.

After Damascus is destroyed, Tartus will take on greater significance. It may even take over administration of what is left of Syria.

The Assad family’s relationship with Iran may explain why they will not participate in the Psalm 83 war. The hostility between the Shites and the Sunni Muslims goes a long way to explaining why Iran will not be a part of that war, and why a part of Syria may sit it out. The enmity caused by two years of civil war would prevent the Alawite section of Syria, or the new Alawite nation, from joining the Arabs when they attack Israel.

On the other hand, the bible names the Hagarites as contributors to the war;

The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Psalm 83:6

Other parts of the bible locate these people in southern Syria;

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead. I Chronicles 5:10

No doubt the Hagarenes and the Hagarites are the same people. They were two of the twelve tribes of Ishmael who left the main body of the Ishmaelites, and settled in the land of Gilead, known today as the Golan. This land, which Israel now occupies in part, is the primary reason for the Syrian civil war. Assad has been reluctant to attack Israel to get it back, and the rebels, no doubt influenced by the Hagarites, are agitating to go on the offensive.

Why would I think they are still there? Because people always have a connection to the land of their ancestors. Even if they are taken away in slavery, eventually another generation will make its way back. Psalm 83 links these people with a coming war, and I have no reason to believe they are in any place other than where they were during the life of king Saul of Israel.

Evidently Assad is not a Hagarite, and doesn’t sympathize with their cause enough to risk his whole presidency over a small section of land his father forfeited to Israel.

So where does the bible mention Tartus? They are named as protesting the Russo/Iranian attack against Israel, in Ezekiel 38;

13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

Notice the word “come” in the passage? This word indicates that these entities are in close proximity to Israel. The invading armies will have to go through the territory of these nations to get to Israel, and they are powerless to stop them. As participants in a peace treaty with Israel it is very likely that their defensive capabilities have been diminished as a result.

In fact the protestors are anticipating being plundered themselves. Why? They have prospered as a result of this peace. Furthermore the Alawites of Tartus will not participate in the war because they will be eye-witnesses of the Destruction of Damascus.

Sheba and Dedan are historically Arab entities, again, likely areas who will gain prominence after the destruction of their respective capitals. While there are several cities that could be known as Tarshish, such as Tarsus, Turkey, the only one that meets all the criteria is Tartus, Syria. Think about it. Why would Tarsus, Turkey, protest a war in which Turkey was a major player?

Now, the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together.

A few months ago I noted that Israel was in talks with the Russian energy giant, Gazprom, over rights to Israel’s natural gas fields in the Mediterranean sea.

At the time I was speculating that this deal appears to be related to the “hook in the jaw” of the Russian leader, Gog, from Ezekiel 38:4. In the context of the passage it is apparent that these nations would not normally attack Israel, but something unnatural will provide the motivation for this attack. It really looked like this deal might actually provide motivation for Russia to join Iran and Turkey in this attack. In other words this could be the beginnings of the fulfilment of prophecy!

Then, in December there was news that Israel had forged a deal with an Australian company, instead of Gazprom. The Reuter’s article explicitly stated that Gazprom had been cut out of the deal. My first thought was, “maybe I was wrong”, but then my second thought was “let’s wait and see”. There must be something involved in the equation, which will provide a motive for these armies to attack.

It turns out that sometimes it is better to sit it out, and wait for the dust to settle.

This last week, Israel and Gazprom announced that they have signed a 20 year deal to develop natural gas. Israel has two natural gas fields, the Tamar field, and the Leviathan field. The Australian company, Woodside, is involved with the Tamar field, and Gazprom will have exclusive rights to export Israeli Liquid Natural Gas (LNG).

So, I am back to my original premise, that either Israel will not renew the deal after the twenty years are up, or that it will go sour sometime before then. Either way Russia will feel that they have a right to the wealth that Israel generates with these gas finds!

An interesting note is that twenty years from now (2013) will coincide with the two thousand year anniversary of the cross of Christ, which many scholars claim. I can’t be certain of the 33 AD estimate of the timing of the cross, but it is certainly very interesting that these dates coincide so exactly.

Hosea says something very interesting in relation to the return of the Lord;

15I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

CHAPTER 6.

1Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

Now, if a day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day (Psalm 90:4, 2 Peter 3:8), then the two thousand year anniversary of His departure (the ascension) is very significant. This passage seems to imply that Jesus Christ will not return until after the two thousand years are up.

Another question that appears to be answered is, why Russia will not be involved in the Psalm 83 war. They will not involve themselves in that war because they have a financial interest in Israel, not to mention their hostility to the Sunni Muslims who are actively working against Russian interests in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Is it possible that the Gog and Magog war, of Ezekiel 38-39, will occur around the end of this Gazprom deal? Only time will tell, but it certainly bears watching!

Gog and Magog war a Church-age event

In conversation the other day, the timing of the Gog and Magog war, of Ezekiel 38-39, came up. I had thought that everyone had come to the conclusion that this is a late Church-age, pre-Tribulation event, but it appears that many don’t know where it fits, or think that it will occur during the Tribulation itself.

It’s actually not all that difficult to figure out. It just takes a bit of cross-referencing with just a few, relevant passages.

1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; 2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you. 3 Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’Sanger. Zephaniah 2:1-3

Notice that the “nation not desired”, Israel, is gathered together BEFORE the “fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you.” This anger of the Lord is the Great Tribulation, or the Time of Jacob’s Trouble. They are called “not desired” because they are still in a state of unbelief, as they were when they were scattered, some 2700 years ago.

Now, please consider that if some of Israel return, but numbers of Jews, or Israelites, are still living abroad it cannot be said that the nation has come together. I use the term Israelites because many descendants of Jacob do not consider themselves Jews, and are following other religions today. The Pathan, or Pashtun, people of Pakistan and Afghanistan contain large numbers of people who call themselves Bani Israel, or Yosefzai, and also by a large number of names that indicate they are descendants of the lost tribes of Israel.

These people today are Muslims, and actually support, and are even members of the Taliban!

Rather than being a problem this is actually fulfilment of a number of biblical prophecies. Here is one to consider;

Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour. Jeremiah 16:13

This is not an impediment to the Lord’s gathering together again this nation. He will do it, in His time. First, of course, they will have to renounce Islam. This will be accomplished by Israel’s defeat of the Arab armies in the soon-to-occur Psalm 83 war. While many will turn from Islam after that war, some will still cling to it.

Several years after the Psalm 83 war, the Gog and Magog war will occur. This will be Islam’s last gasp. It will go out with a bang, and the surviving Muslims will lose faith in that false god.

So how do we know that the war of Ezekiel 38-39 occurs before the Tribulation?

I’m glad you asked;

It really comes down to a comparison of Ezekiel 39:25 with Zephaniah 2:1-2, although there are many other corroborating passages.

In the early verses of Ezekiel’s account we see that much of Israel has already returned to the land. Here God is speaking to the leader of the Russo-Iranian coalition;

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. Ezekiel 38:8

Israel will be living in peace and security at this time, and will be brought back from the nations to a large degree, but not all of them are back just yet. This passage is not quite the situation we see in the Middle East today. While many Israelites and Jews have returned, there are still many living outside the nation. Israel’s existence is threatened every day. Rockets rain down on them regularly, and the security fence keeps out suicide bombers who were a regular part of the scene until it was constructed.

No, something major has to happen first, before the conditions of Ezekiel 38:8 are met. That “thing” is the Psalm 83 war, but this is another issue.

There is a statement made near the end of Ezekiel 39 which ties in with Zephaniah 2, and puts this passage in perspective;

25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; 26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. 27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;

You see the captivity of Israel has not really been over, up until this point. This is the end of their captivity, and it coincides with the end of the Gog and Magog war. As Zephaniah 2 tells us, this final return will be Before the Tribulation period begins! Obviously, the Gog and Magog war must occur before the Tribulation, during the closing days of the Church-age.

Don’t think the phrase “and will be jealous for my holy name” denotes good things for Israel. At this time God is ready to deal with Israel, and it will not be pretty. He will now call them back to fellowship with Himself, but for those who refuse, only judgment and death await them!

And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. Zechariah 13:8

When the bible says that “all Israel shall be saved” it is referring to this one third who turns to Jesus and survives Armageddon, not to every Jew who ever lived!

God’s call back to the land is not entirely friendly.

I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them: and they shall increase as they have increased. Zechariah 10:8

In our English language we have often made the words “redeemed” and “saved” synonymous. The truth is that these words have separate meanings that sometimes overlap. The word “redeemed” actually means “purchased”. In the context of Zechariah 10:8 it does not mean that all Israel is saved, but that God has purchased them!

When did God purchase Israel? When He purchased the world from His father, with His blood, on the cross of Calvary! Israel was included in that purchase.

So why would God use the words “hiss for them”? Serpents hiss. Either God is using Satan to bring back Israel, or he is calling them through His teeth, clenched in anger! Either way it is not good! At least it is not good for the recipients of His wrath.

I think the hiss is the lie that “The Time of Jacob’s trouble is over, and it is now safe to return to the land of Israel.” This lie will be spoken after the Gog and Magog war, and will be repeated by “Christians” and Jews alike, but its origin is with Satan. God will never lie, but He is able to use the lies of others to accomplish His purposes. Now His purpose is to gather Israel completely before the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, the Great Tribulation.

In other words God is returning Israel back to the land, not as a reward for faithfulness, but in their unbelief, He is calling them back for judgment, and so that He can do a work in them. Like a faulty product God is calling Israel back to the place of manufacture, so He can fix their sin problem! This is the last seven years of Daniel’s prophecy (see Daniel 9:24-26), the final week of years allotted for Israel to put away iniquity.

When He says that He will have mercy on the whole house of Israel, He means that all Israel will return, including the scattered tribes, with the Pathan, but His mercy is conditional on their repentance and faith in the Son of God, Yeshua ha Mashiah!

12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem. Isaiah 27:12

Here we have more corroborating evidence from Isaiah. In the war of Gog and Magog, Israel’s enemies will be beaten-off from the Nile to the Euphrates. The gathering “one by one” is because there are not many left outside of Israel at this time. The majority will already have returned before the war. We saw this earlier in Ezekiel 38:8.

This passage, taken along with Zephaniah 2:1-2, also tells us that Israel will control all the territory God promised them, BEFORE the Tribulation begins! Most prophecy scholars will tell you that Israel will not get all their land before the millennial reign of Christ. I disagree. I think that God will allow them to get their land as part of the “hiss”! They will interpret this to mean that the age of messiah is upon them, but in fact the Time of Jacob’s trouble is about to begin! The Messiah will be along later!

The Trumpet mentioned here is the last trumpet, in a series, summoning the tribes of Israel back to the land. I personally believe that this trumpet does double-duty. This is why it is called “the great trumpet”. This trumpet is also the trumpet that calls the Church home in the great snatch!

This trumpet signals the end of the church-age, and the beginning of the last seven years of the age of Israel. Paul mentioned this trumpet in 1 Corinthians 15:52 in context of the rapture of the Church, but this does not mean that there is only one purpose for this event. The Church will be removed when it is God’s time to deal with the world through Israel, again.

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Zechariah 12:10

The Pope’s successor

The big news this week was the resignation of the Roman Catholic pope, Benedict XVI. Then, within twenty four hours, St. Peter’s basilica in Vatican city was struck by lightning.

Immediately, there was a flurry of articles about the prophecies of the twelfth century “saint” Malachy. As I detailed in my article “Petrus Romanus, the last pope”, there has been a lot of excitement and speculation over when Benedict will leave office, and who will replace him, precisely because of these prophecies.

The addition of a lightning strike certainly adds drama to the mix! Satan is an expert at the dramatic, just look at Hollywood!

The ancient book of Job shows us that Satan has the ability to control the weather, so please don’t think that a lightning strike holds any significance, from God’s perspective. (See Job 1:18-19) It could just as well be that Satan is doing his best to get the world’s attention. I’d say he’s got it!

But why would Satan go out of his way to attract attention to the selection of the next pope? Well for one the “Saint” Malachy prophecies predict that this will be the last pope. If the Malachy prophecies are Satanic in origin, then Satan would naturally want to do his best to make them seem legitimate.

To put it bluntly, the “Saint” Malachy prophecies are indeed Satanic. Their purpose is to deceive.

Don’t be surprised if some Satanic prophecies do indeed come to pass. The bible warns us that this can happen. You can know the truth if you stick to the Word of God;

1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 13:1-3

Many have noted that the biblical standard for prophecy is 100% accuracy, but the truth is, it is more than 100%. It is 100%, plus consistency with the teachings of the bible!

Could it be that Satan has something rather nasty in store for the next pope? I think so. With the European economic crisis deepening day by day, Europe is set up to accept a fascist type of dictator, to provide a fiscal solution, and he will need a spiritual partner…the pope.

Since Satan always has his counterfeits, he will surely produce a counterfeit of the Antichrist, and the false prophet. He will arrange counterfeits of as many events from the book of Revelation has he can. As I have shown in The Spirit of Prophecy, he has been working on a number of these deceptions for some time now. He will also arrange the demise of these men in a war that closely approximates the biblical Armageddon.

Think about it; If the “Antichrist” and false prophet are destroyed, then the next thing on the biblical agenda is the return of Christ. All Satan has to do is to convince the world that another pair are the Antichrist and False Prophet. Then, when he destroys them they will expect a Saviour, and then he will present his Antichrist to the world!

This is why Jesus said Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as YE THINK NOT the Son of man cometh. (Matthew 24:44) Who are the people Jesus refers to as “ye”? They are the people who are reading the bible at that time. The verb “think” in this sentence is an active verb. It does not mean that they are not thinking of His return, but rather they are thinking that He will not return. Why would they think this? The answer is precisely because they think that Armageddon is over and Christ has already returned! Their Christ, of course, is the Antichrist!

So how is it that people reading the bible can get the opposite message of what was intended? If you read it with the wrong worldview, if you have a tendency to allegorize things that were meant to be literal, if you forget to pray, you can become an Antichristian! This is why you need to accept the literal, plain-sense meanings found in Scripture. When it says there is a place called Hell, believe it! When it says you are a sinner heading for Hell, you’d better believe it! The whole human race is in this predicament, and God must satisfy justice, because that is His character. This is why Christ died, and this is why He will return and not another. He is the only one worthy to rule, and to judge the world!

So, what do I expect to come during the reign of the next pope? I think it is highly likely that the Psalm 83 war will occur during that time. It is probable that the next pope, along with a European leader, will broker a peace treaty between Israel and the Arabs, in the aftermath of that war. I also think this peace treaty will allow Israel to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem.

This peace treaty will be one that works, for a time, and both Israel and the Arabs will prosper. This treaty will guarantee Israel’s security, and allow them to give up their nuclear weapons, which they will have used during the Psalm 83 war. I think it is this treaty that will identify the European leader as the Antichrist, in the minds of many prophecy “scholars”, and the pope as the false prophet. This peace will be interrupted by the Gog and Magog war, several years later. (Seven years, perhaps?)

I am quite sure that, during this time, the post-tribbers and amillennialists will be telling us “You were wrong! Here we are in the middle of the Tribulation and the rapture hasn’t happened yet! Admit it, you were wrong!” They are missing a whole bunch of things, among which is the fact that the Tribulation will not begin until AFTER the Gog and Magog war, of Ezekiel 38-39. They miss the love of God for the Church. They miss the fact that the entire seven years of the Tribulation is Israel’s time, not the Churches.

I expect that since the European leader will have given Israel a guarantee of security, in exchange for relinquishing their nuclear weapons, that this will provide motivation for one of the Gog and Magog combatants to preemptively destroy the city of Rome, when both the pope and European leader are present. This will ensure that Europe does not interfere when the Russo-Iranian coalition invades Israel.

This will also ensure that most Protestants and Catholics will interpret this to be the destruction of the City of Seven Mountains, of Revelation 17. They will reason that since this was fulfilment of Revelation 17 and 18, there is nothing to stop the world’s religions from uniting. So they will unite, and since Rome will be a ruin, they will have to choose another capital city. I think that city will be in, or near, Babylon, Iraq. I expect that the New Apostolic Reformation, with their “Seven Mountain Mandate”, will play a major role in this new religious entity. They will proclaim the thousand year reign of “the Christ” and then the Great Tribulation will be about to begin!

Which Eschatology are you following? Part 2

Last week I mentioned several Eschatological systems, but really didn’t elaborate on most of them.

I think it is plain that the Dispensational approach is the most biblically literal approach, and any problems with Dispensationalism are really the result of fleshly humans inserting their own understanding into the interpretation of Scripture. The idea that Old Testament saints were saved by keeping the law, would fall into this category.

When I speak of a “literal interpretation” of Scripture I am not denying that there are parts that were meant to be taken in an allegorical manner. It becomes apparent when reading and studying Scripture, which ones were meant to be taken literally and which have an allegorical interpretation. What I am really saying is the correct approach is the “plain-sense” meaning of the words, taken in the context they were given or intended.

One place, among many, where the Roman Catholic Church gets this wrong is the words of our Lord at the last supper;

17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said,Take this, and divide it among yourselves:18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:17-20

Think of the scene here; Jesus is standing at the table with his disciples. He is eating with them, and he gets their attention and makes this statement. He is still IN his body. His body had not been beaten at this time, and all of His blood was fully contained within His body.

When He passed around the matzoh and the wine, and they ate and drank it, they were not literally eating his flesh, nor were they drinking his blood. The law of Moses specifically forbade the consumption of any kind of blood;

For it isthe life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.Leviticus 17:14

The disciples clearly understood that this command was still in effect for later they repeated this command to the Church;

As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. Acts 21:25

We can conclude then, that the disciples understood that Jesus’ statement that the wine was his blood, or the matzoh was His flesh was figurative, or allegorical, and not literal. The matzoh REPRESENTED His body, and the wine REPRESENTED His blood.

This is further reinforced by His statement “this do in remembrance of me.” In other words, He is not physically present in the elements, but is only represented in them.

What did He actually mean by saying “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.”? (John 6:53) He actually answered this question just a few verses later: “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)

Did you see that? The flesh profits NOTHING! If someone had eaten Jesus’ literal body, after He was taken down from the cross (and they did not!), they would have still been a lost sinner on the way to Hell! If someone had literally drank his blood they would still have their sins on them, and would have been heading for the lake of fire!

There is a reason Jesus is called the Word of God (John 1:1). He is synonymous with His words! What do you do when you eat a meal? You take in the food and it becomes a part of you! In the same sense, you eat the Word of God, the bible, and it becomes a part of you! You eat Jesus by reading His word, believing it, and then He becomes a part of you! Literally!

The Lord’s table is merely symbolic of what is going on inside of you!

So how does this have anything to do with Eschatology?

To coin a phrase; You are what you believe.

Your eschatology says something of you, and your view of God.

Preterist eschatology states that everything in the bible’s end times prophecies were all fulfilled in the first century, specifically in the person of Nero and Rome’s destruction of Jerusalem. According to this philosophy there is nothing to look for, since it has already been fulfilled.

In order to believe Preterism you have to ignore the fact that Rome did not rule the entire world, nor even the entire known world. You have to ignore the fact that Rome did not impose an economic system where people were required to wear the mark of the beast in order to buy or sell.

The Preterist version of Armageddon does not have armies from China, Japan, Russia or America, but only from the various parts of the Roman empire.

Preterism teaches that, since now all the prophecies have been fulfilled, we must be in the “millennial” reign of Christ, right now! Since Christ is not physically here He must reign in and through the Church. What they do is interpret Scripture based on their eschatology, rather than form their eschatology based on the plain teaching of Scripture.

Amillennialism is in the same camp, believing that the Church must take over the world first, and then Jesus can return. Amillennialism believes that the reign of Christ is not a literal thousand years, but an undetermined length of time, in spite of the fact that Revelation 19 states six times that Christ will reign for one thousand years.

Going back to our discussion about the literal, plain-sense, interpretation of Scripture, you will see that these interpretations rely on spiritualizing, or allegorizing every passage that was meant to be literal. If a passage doesn’t say that something is “like” something else, if it doesn’t use the word “parable”, if the context does not demand an allegorical interpretation, then it was intended to be literal.

There are many dangers to these systems of interpretation. Preterism leads its adherents to discount any and all apparent fulfilments of prophecy, as being just “coincidence”. Amillennialism often teaches that the Roman Catholic church is the Harlot, and Rome is the Babylon of Revelation 17, therefore one need not look elsewhere for fulfilment of the relevant passages in Scripture. (What if Rome was destroyed, say during the Gog and Magog war? Would that mean the danger was past? I don’t think so.)

Very often adherents of both systems teach that God has no Chosen People today, and that the Church has taken the place of Israel, and transferred all of His promises to Israel, to the Church! This leads to anti-Semitism, and has been the cause of much persecution of the Jews throughout history.

Dispensationalism shines in this respect, since taking the literal, plain-sense, approach to Scripture always leads one to accept the fact that God still has a plan for natural Israel, the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Yacov.

Preterism and Amillennialism’s greatest flaw is that they lift up man. Ultimately God is dependant on the action of man. In these systems God has to wait until the Church takes over the world before He can return. Such an insult to Jesus Christ did not come from the pages of Scripture! In Acts 1:7 Jesus plainly stated that His return and the restoration of Israel is precisely in the hands of God the Father, and He has the power to bring it about when He wishes, and the Church can not hasten, nor delay that day!

The allegorical approach to Scripture, practised by Preterists and Amillennialists, is probably the most dangerous aspect of these systems. In the end, this approach will lead these people to support the Antichrist in his rise, and quest for power. Ultimately, these people will be destroyed by the very man they vote for to be the ruler of the world!

Dispensationalism, on the other hand, being the most biblically correct system, has the most demonic opposition. Satan, knowing that he can’t always win by attacking from the outside, has infiltrated, even the best system. In fact God’s system would naturally be the one he would spend the most time working against. As noted above, the idea that people were saved by keeping the law before Christ came, is one of Satan’s attacks. The idea that “There are no signs before the rapture, so there is nothing to watch for” would be another. This idea promotes complacency, and is not Scriptural.

There are others. The only way you can be sure is to study Scripture for yourself. Read good books on eschatology, and I think the Spirit of Prophecy is a good place to start, but always check everything by the Word of God. The only book that is infallible is the Word of God itself, and be careful which version of that you read! Satan has been busy attacking the very words of the Word of God, of late. Read a literal translation like the Authorized Version, and avoid paraphrase like the plague!

Every time paraphrase is used it is used to insert the thoughts of the translator into the bible! Since 1881 every new version has more paraphrase than the one before! The most recent versions have dropped any attempt at accuracy and are almost pure paraphrase. The Message, by Eugene Peterson, probably tops the list as the most antichrist bible in history, but that doesn’t mean the others are good, just less bad.

The AV, while perhaps not perfect, has no serious errors, and can be trusted. You can read it with confidence that what you are reading is substantially what God gave the authors. This is the bible that stands as the standard against which all other bibles are compared. You may have to use a dictionary, and you certainly will have to read passages over and over repeatedly. Don’t think of it as a chore, however, but as a personal letter from God to you, and it will be a joy!
