With all the anger and protests over an American soldier burning a couple copies of the Qur’an, one wonders why all the fuss? Where were the protests when the US military burned copies of the bible which were also headed for Afghanistan?
I have a suggestion; If the US military wants Qur’ans in Afghanistan, why not send them really accurate copies of it? I’m referring, of course, to The Generous Qur’an, a translation by Usama Dakdok.
If you know a soldier working in Afghanistan, I would suggest you send them a copy of the most accurate English translation of the Qur’an. You can get one from Usama Dakdok’s website. Mr. Dakdok grew up in Egypt, and has first hand experience dealing with Muslims and Islam. He has a great love for Muslims, and I think both soldiers and Muslims would benefit from his work.
To date most English copies of the Qur’an have been somewhat dishonest, often sugar coating passages that English speakers might find disturbing, or offensive. Usama Dakdok, and several other scholars, took on the task of creating an accurate English translation, that doesn’t hide anything, but lets you see it as the Arabic speaker sees it.
Here is what The Straight Way of Grace says about this translation:
1. Accurate English Translation
2. Study Notes for the Reader
3. Errors and Contradictions
4. Comparison with Biblical Accounts
5. Points to Original Sources
6. Highlights non-arabic words and idioms in the Qur’an.
7. Includes Table of Bible prophecies about Jesus
8. Gospel Invitation
