Civil War in Syria and Iraq

In my book “The Spirit of Prophecy” I noted that Psalm 83 describes a war in which the surrounding Arab nations attack Israel.  The passage in question lists a group of tribes, familiar to readers of Scripture, though perhaps less familiar to most citizens of western democracies today.  In the book I traced those tribes to their modern descendants, so we can see which modern nations are going to be involved in this war.

Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, The Palestinians of the Gaza strip, and Egypt are all named, though other Arab nations such as Yemen, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates may also be involved.

What I found rather interesting is that the nations named in the Ezekiel 38-39 account are all conspicuous by their absence in the Psalm 83 war, which I have dubbed “Asaph’s war”.  These nations include Iran, Turkey, Libya, Sudan (possibly also Ethiopia), and Russia.

Puzzling, at times, was the fact that Syria and Iraq, have close ties to Iran, and if they were to go to war with Israel today, they certainly would be joined by Tehran.  No question about it.

At the time I said that something must occur to realign these nations so that they fit into the biblical scenario.  At the time Iraq was occupied by American troops, and it was certain that the US would not allow Iraq to participate in a war with their ally Israel.  I stated at the time that Asaph’s war would have to wait until the US troops left Iraq.  That event occurred this week.

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Nour al-Maliki, shares a sponsor with Syrian dictator Hafez al-Assad, namely Tehran.  Both of these men preside over governments made up primarily of Shiites, who are deadly enemies of the Sunnis.  Hizballah, the Lebanese terrorist group is also a part of this alignment.

As I was reading an article on Debka file this morning, it occurred to me that I was seeing another piece of the puzzle fall into place.  Starting with a discussion of a bomb blast in Damascus, the article goes on to describe how Sunni Al-Qaeda men have been infiltrating into Syria and Lebanon, thus exporting the fighting throughout the region.

I predict that these uprisings will be successful.  The Assad regime is doomed, as is Maliki’s government.  This Sunni/Shia split ultimately provides an explanation for a large part of the two major attacks on Israel.  The Arabs will attack without the help of the other Muslim nations, and later, perhaps years later, the other nations will also invade, with the help of Russia, during the Gog and Magog war.

Noted in the Debka article, is the fact that Turkey also favors the Sunni’s.  Something will happen to change Turkey’s alignment away from the Sunni Arabs.  At this point it is too early to say what will change their mind, so that they will not join the Arab attack, but they will sit it out.  Given the fact that only two years ago Turkey was cooperating with Israel militarily, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that they could change again.

A coup or an election, could remove Turkish prime minister Erdogan from office.  Something will happen, it shall be interesting to see it unfold!  We are indeed living in interesting, and dangerous, times.

Is Democracy the Cure?

This last weekend many of us were shocked by some of the pictures coming out of the protests in Egypt. It was only earlier this year that we watched the protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, where the government of Hosni Mubarak was brought down, and left Mubarak himself facing charges.

Now we are seeing those who replaced Mubarak acting in the same way, and even worse!

As westerners we are shocked by these images.  How can supposedly “civilized” people treat others this way?  Five men beating a woman, lying on the ground, is the height of cowardice, and brutality.  I have even seen some suggest that if you participate in a protest you should expect no quarter. (see the above link and scroll down to the comments) Wow!

Egyptian soldeirs drag and beat female protester

Outnumbered: Female protester viciously beaten by Egyptian soldiers

You can see more, and also watch the video here.

The people in power, who were protesters themselves only months ago, are showing the height of hypocrisy, treating their fellow protesters this way!  This is what I find most disturbing.  One minute these people are crying “I want my rights” and the next they deny those rights to others.  Shame!

This is not something new, however.  During the twentieth century Socialism and Communism killed over 150 million people around the world.  Growing up during the Communist era it was not uncommon to see pictures, or hear reports, of people beaten and tortured in prisons in Russia and China.  The difference is that those people did it behind locked doors, and without cameras being present.

The brazen arrogance of the Egyptian military to do this in front of cameras is incredibly disturbing.  They don’t seem to care that you or I see what they are doing, in fact it almost appears that they want us to see it!  This could be characterized as state-terrorism.  By allowing us to see what they are doing to protesters, they are telling us what our fate will be if we speak out against them!

In the west there is a smug attitude of “It can’t happen here”.  This is the height of folly.  Just last week the American Congress was debating a bill that would allow indefinite detention of American citizens, suspected of ties to terror organizations, without the benefit of access to a lawyer, or even a trial!

It now appears that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012, has been passed by both houses, and the Senate.  As this bill goes into effect the US President, or the military, can now detain anyone they suspect of association with terrorist groups, and can hold them indefinitely without trial!  The problem is that if you can be held without trial you have no way to prove your innocence!  They are relying on error-prone officials to determine the guilt or innocence of suspects, based on how they define terror suspects.

As Brannon Howse explains, you can be considered a terror suspect if you have missing fingers, own firearms or waterproofed ammunition, or even have a belief in biblical prophecy!  Interesting!

You can view Brannon’s page here, or listen to his radio program here.  Read about the National Defense Authorization Act here.

While the world is busy watching the chaos in the Middle East, the American government is busy quietly introducing its own brand of totalitarianism, under the radar!  While there were some voices courageously raised, and amendments proposed to protect the rights of citizens, it appears that the majority voted in favor.  While Obama may not intend to abuse these powers, the gate is now opened for someone else to do so!

Do you think we’re better than the Communists, or the Muslims?  You have another think coming!  The truth is the human heart is a very dark place. Don’t follow your heart.  Follow Jesus, He is the answer, not democracy!

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

The Truth about Refugees

Recently a French website refused to post Danny Ayalon’s commentary on the Palestinian refugees.  Le Post said the video was “potentially racist” and removed it from their page.

Mr. Ayalon is actually telling the truth about the situation.  The Palestinian refugees have been kept in a state of limbo by the Arab governments, and the UN, as a way of putting pressure on Israel.  They are pawns in a political game.  The Arabs who actually stayed in Israel have the highest standard of living of any Arabs in the middle east, and have voting rights that Jews living in Arab nations don’t have.  Meanwhile the refugees left Israel because the Arab governments had told them to leave, and that they could return once Israel was wiped off the map.

Danny tells it much better than I can:

2011 Dishonest Reporting Awards

And the Most Dishonest Reporting Award goes to…The Guardian!

Since WW2 (formerly Great) Britain has been on a continuous slide to backwater status. There actually was a time when Britain was Great. It was a time when they took the bible seriously, and brought some good to the rest of the world, but that is ancient history.

Their slide can be traced to the time when Darwin published his “The Origin of Species: By Means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life”. This book, so beloved by Nazis and Marxists, really amounts to a declaration of war against God, and has been instrumental in forming the worldview of that nation to a greater and greater extent, to the point that today they rank among the foremost enemies of God.  People following the philosophy of that book are responsible for over two hundred million deaths in the last hundred years alone!

(Communism: 150 million plus, Nazism 50 million plus or minus, Abortion in the USA alone 50 million plus)

So, it should not surprise us that many British journalists are rabidly biased against Israel, and the Jews. The Guardian does not even pretend to be journalistically neutral, but actually gives a platform to Hamas Terrorists like Musa Abu Marzuq, and Osama Hamdan.  Honest Reporting has done its homework, check out the complete list here.  Check it out, it’s well worth reading.

Honest Reporting’s Dishonest Reporting Awards don’t end with the Guardian, unfortunately.  On their 2011 Dishonest Reporting Awards page you will also find other headings like “Most Insensitive Response to Terror Award: Los Angeles Times”, “Eyes Wide Shut Award: BBC“, “Most Opportunistic Interviewer Award: Shahira Amin, Egypt’s Nile TV News (While all are shocking, this one is quite disgusting), “Dumbest Definition of Terror Award: Reuters“, “Worst Pandering to An Autocrat Award: Vogue“, “Poison Pen Award: Jeff Danziger“, “Special Achievement Award for Sensationalism: Silwan Photographers“, “Most Problematic Group of Writers Award: The Independent“, “Fact Check Fail Award: AP/Czarek Sokolowski“, and “Mouthpiece Most Deserving of a Ban in 2012: Press TV“.

Honesty was once regarded as a virtue among the world’s journalists, but there is a large segment that today have succumbed to the pressure to become political mouthpieces.  For this reason I would recommend news sources that are more independent.  I can’t vouch for every article but you are more likely to get honest and fair reporting from the following sources: The Drudge Report, Debka File, Front Page Magazine, Ha’aretzVCY America, Worldview Weekend with Brannon Howse, World Net Daily, Discover the Networks, The David Horowitz Freedom Centre, and Pajamas Media.

Don’t expect honest or accurate reporting from the big names, like CBS, NBC, ABC, or even Fox.  Fox is partly owned by a Saudi prince. While they may say some things against some forms of Islam, you can bet there is a line they will not cross.  Don’t trust publicly funded news sources like BBC, CBC, or NPR.  While they may be officially neutral, more often than not they have a leftist agenda.

The truth is that everyone has a bias.  I suggest you find a news source that is biased toward fairness, accuracy, and honesty.  While Israel’s government is not always correct, avoid any news source that questions Israel’s right to exist.  They are on the losing side and you don’t want to get dragged down with them!

Christmas, Should Christians Keep It?

Here we are and it’s that time of year again.

Common among Christians is the slogan “Jesus is the reason for the season” or “Let’s keep Christ in Christmas”.

Most Christians believe that Christmas is the most important celebration of the year, followed by Easter. The truth is that neither of these celebrations are commanded in Scripture, and both have pagan origins.

Jesus was actually crucified on the eve of the Jewish feast of Passover. Easter was a pagan celebration that occurred around the same time, and was also known as “Ishtar”.

Easter is mentioned only once in the King James bible, in Acts 12:4. The Jewish feast of Passover was finished and Herod was planning to execute Peter after Easter. Herod was a pagan, and didn’t want to interrupt his celebration with a beheading.

But, I digress. Our subject is Christmas. The ancient pagan name for this feast was Saturnalia, and it was a feast of conspicuous consumption, celebrating the beginning of lengthening days and the coming of spring. When Constantine formed the state Catholic Church in the early 300s AD he incorporated the pagan feasts into Christianity, including Christmas and Easter.

To the surprise  of many there is no command to celebrate either of these feasts in Holy Scripture.  In fact the date of Jesus’ birth is not known at all.  The only clue we have is that there were shepherds out in the fields that night.  Since shepherds in Israel do not stay out in the fields in winter we can know for certain that Jesus was not born on December 25th of any year!

Many scholars believe that it is more likely that Jesus was born in September or October.  I do remember hearing at one time, that there was a group of ancient Christians who celebrated His birth in September.  Undoubtedly this is a more accurate date than December 25, it couldn’t be less!

So.  Should Christians celebrate Christmas?  Really it doesn’t matter.  If you want to, go ahead.  We are given freedom in Christ.

Some Christians don’t celebrate Christmas, because of its connection with Rome.  That’s OK too.  Baptists did not celebrate Christmas until some time in the 1800s.

Should we celebrate Christ’s birth?  Absolutely!  Without Jesus’ birth into a human family it would have been impossible for any human to go to Heaven!  He could not have died for us if He had not been born first.  If you don’t celebrate His birth at Christmas, do you set aside time to remember it?  The Lord set aside several pages of scripture for it, so it must be important.  I can tell you this; If you don’t set aside time to celebrate it, if you say; “I’ll celebrate His birth every day” it will become mundane and will soon be drowned out in the cares of life.

For most people, Christmas is about conspicuous consumption.  If you sit around the table of most families, even Christian families, at Christmas you will find that Jesus is generally not the subject of conversation.

I’m ashamed to say that Jesus has not always been the subject of the conversations I have been involved in at Christmas time.  New Years is often the time when people make resolutions to do better in the coming year.  Maybe this year we should resolve, before Christmas, to make Jesus the center of our celebration.  Let’s not make it about conspicuous consumption, Let’s make it about Jesus Christ.

He was really born in a stable, and really laid in an animals feeding trough.  His mother really was a virgin when He was conceived.  He really is God, come in the flesh, and He really came to rescue us from a fate so horrible we can’t imagine it, and He did so by taking our sin upon himself.  He really died for our sin, and was really raised from the dead, and promises the same for all of His followers!

He is no longer the baby in a manger, He’s the soon-coming King of Kings!  He is the key to eternal life!  Now that’s something to celebrate!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

From Dan Knezacek and family

Our Sadducees and Pharisees

To those who took a stand for truth, and found themselves out in the cold, I have something for you from the Lord;

Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.” Isaiah 66:5

Note that the context of this passage is the End Times, the times in which we live.

I have often heard the term “Pharisees” bandied about with regard to other churches and denominations, yet have not heard anyone being called “Sadducees”. This is strange since we actually have both groups in Christian circles these days.

The Sadducees were a lot like our liberal denominations. They denied everything the bible says, especially the resurrection, and allegorized, or spiritualized, everything, to the point that the bible said nothing. This category today is so widespread that it infects every denomination to some extent! These are the people who focus on the “social gospel” and “communitarianism”. While it used to be limited to the mainstream denominations like Presbyterian, Lutheran, Anglican (Episcopal), and the large Baptist associations, this mindset has infiltrated most denominations, and I’m afraid, even independent churches.  Purpose Driven is a perfect example of this type of Christian, as is the Emergent or Emerging Church, the New Apostolic Reformation, and the Roman Church.

These churches, while paying lip service to the gospel, deny it by their lifestyle. You will find that their emphasis is on making the world a better place for the poor. They believe in Ecumenism for the sake of working together for the betterment of mankind. These poor people have traded in their glorious birthright, of salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, for a bowl of communal porridge that will be gone tomorrow. They have traded a belief in literal six day creation for a poor confused God who can’t figure out what He wants for over billions of years of experimenting!

The worst part of it all is that when the Antichrist shows up, speaking some Christian-like words, these people will end up supporting him, because they didn’t believe what the bible says about the one-and-only Savior, Jesus Christ.  There are blood-bought born-again Christians attending these churches.  They are the ones who don’t quite fit in.  Are not quite comfortable.  The ones who see where their church is going and try to warn the rest.  They often end up, as Rick Warren calls them, “blessed subtractions”.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the Pharisees.

Like today, the Pharisees of Jesus’ day were much closer to the truth than the Sadducees. I don’t know of any rebukes Jesus made against the Pharisees for their understanding of Scripture, rather, he often rebuked them for their hypocrisy. For saying one thing and doing another.

Our modern Pharisees are rather similar to those of Jesus’ day. The Old Testament had some 613 laws that were given by God for Israel’s benefit. Thinking that they could out-do God they added law upon law, to the point that in Jesus’ day there were some 2,000 man made laws added to Scripture.

Many of the conservative Churches today do similar things. Churches add law upon law, with the idea of pleasing the Lord, but in the end all it does is cause their children to fall away. People, of all stripes, can’t seem to be able to allow anyone else the freedom to follow their own conscience.

To coin a phrase “What would Jesus do” in the same situation? What did Jesus do in the Garden of Eden? You know He was there. He created Adam and Eve, gave them language and one law. He told them the truth, and left them alone to their own devices. He gave them the freedom of choice. Yes, in the end they did choose wrong, but do you think God regrets His decision? I don’t think so. He has done the same for billions of their descendants ever since.

He could have destroyed that couple for their decision, but instead He chose to be born of one of their descendants and to die for their sin, and for yours and mine. Imagine! God made a way for depraved sinners, like you and me, to actually come into His Holy presence, and to be called His children! He didn’t stop with a visit to Heaven, but actually invites us to live in His presence! The amazing thing is that nowhere in scripture are we told to live perfect lives to earn a place in Heaven. We are told to receive Him as our Saviour, repent, and walk with Him. (Acts 16:13, John 3:16, Romans 10:9)

So, what are our modern Pharisees teaching their children when they make up all kinds of unbiblical rules? Though they may say they believe in salvation by grace, their actions teach a salvation by grace-plus-works. As they say, “Actions speak louder than words”. You see, while they say “Salvation by grace” they actually focus on works and actions, leading their children to believe that salvation is dependent on works.

I have actually heard these Pharisees say “it is possible to live a victorious Christian life”, implying that you can achieve total victory at some point in your life, which leads me to observe that the words of Paul don’t sound like he was always victorious;

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” Romans 7:24

Read the whole passage. Paul was not teaching that one can be completely victorious throughout one’s life. He was teaching our total dependence on Jesus for our righteousness! We have none of our own, and though we do seek to lead an obedient life, we are not, and cannot be saved by our works, nor do our works keep us saved. Furthermore our obedience must be to God, not to our pastor, Prime-Minister, or President.

So what should we do in the grey areas? The areas that Scripture says nothing? Do we make up rules for others to follow? Many pastors do. The area of alcohol and wine, is one example. Some passages are positive toward this liquid, and others are negative. Do we make up rules for interpretation, such as “if it is positive then it must be grape juice, and negative is interpreted as alcoholic wine”? This is contrary to the literal principle of Hermeneutics, which indicates that one should accept the normal literal sense of the words, unless the context dictates otherwise.

Do you see how subtle it is? For a good cause, preventing drunkenness, we change the interpretation of Scripture just slightly so our children don’t become alcoholics! It doesn’t hurt anyone does it? Actually, I think it offends the Holy Spirit! When God told us not to change His word, (Revelation 22:18-19), this is exactly what He was talking about! These well meaning Christians are actually doing exactly the same thing the ancient Pharisees did! (for more on the biblical teaching on wine and alcohol, see my article here)

When they get away with doing it once, do you think they will stop there? No. Following the pattern of many Churches down through the centuries, the pastor becomes the local pope, and failing to follow his dictates can lead to excommunication. I was personally asked to leave a church because I disagreed with the pastor on the subject of tithing, and passed a book to a fellow believer about this subject.

It may seem, to some, that I am nit-picking on these subjects. Surely Christians should support the Church? The truth is that is a different issue. The tithe was instituted as income tax, when Israel was a theocracy, and the nation was administered by the priests. Christians are not tenants on His land, but actually the body of Christ! Each true believer is permanently indwelt with the Holy Spirit, something totally unheard of in ancient Israel, and forgotten by many pastors today. Jesus told us of this position one day when he was speaking with Peter:

24 “And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? 25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? 26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.” (Matthew 17:4-6)

If you are in Christ you are free! Should you support the ministry of your local Church? If they are preaching truth, you should, but the amount is up to you. There is no set amount, or percentage given for Christians in the New Testament.

So why do preachers preach tithing? We have already examined the reasons above. They believe that they have the authority to grab Old Testament teaching, meant specifically for Israel, and apply it to the Church. Tithe teaching works. This is called pragmatism, and is not to be found in the New Testament. Frankly if they teach this doctrine you can be sure they are teaching error in other areas.

Usually Church governance will also suffer. In the New Testament, the pattern of Church governance is set out for us. “Presbuteros” is the Greek word translated as Presbytery in 1 Timothy 4:14, and means a ruling body of Elders. Acts 14:23, and Titus 1:5, indicate that Elder was an ordained position, and did not indicate just any older man in the congregation. The rest of the references to elders in the New Testament is always in the plural, unless it is speaking of an individual elder. The Pastor is the presiding elder in the Presbytery, also known as a Bishop.

Baptist pastors generally rebel against this divinely ordained system of Church Governance, largely because they like to have control over what is taught in their church, but it truly is rebellion, and has led to much sin and abuse among this group of pastors. Having to answer to a board of Elders, is the divinely ordained system of responsibility for the Church leadership. A pastor who falls into sin can be disciplined or removed by the Elders, as can an individual Elder. This naturally goes against the grain of many pastors. Pride keeps many of these men in the pulpit, until the Lord Himself removes them. The Jack Hyles story is a tragic case in point.

I am not saying that having the true biblical system of Church governance is a guarantee against apostasy. It is too late in the day for that. Presbyterians, and the Plymouth Brethren, who are the closest to the biblical model, are as far from the truth today as everyone else. I am only saying that God originally intended a certain type of Church governance, as a system of checks and balances, but men always think they know better than God!

Between the Sadducees and the Pharisees, there is not a lot of room for the true flock of God. If you are one of His, I commend you. Keep looking unto Jesus. Seek out like-minded believers to associate with, knowing that you will never find someone who believes exactly as you do. It isn’t essential that we all believe the same things, just so long as we all have the same Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ! The Lord Jesus, born of a virgin, the Only Begotten Son of God, who is the creator God, who died as a substitution for our sins, and who was raised again on the third day, and today sits at the right hand of God the Father making intercession for us. That’s the Jesus I’m talking about!

The Unforgivable Sin

Jesus has often been characterized as a loving God, while the God of the Old Testament is viewed as hard and unforgiving.

As usual, the general, popular view is wrong. The truth is that Jesus is the God of the Old Testament, and it is in the New Testament that Jesus actually reveals that there is an unforgivable sin. Jesus is as Holy as His Father, and has the same hatred of sin as His father has. Now let’s look at his statement and see if we can understand what is being said:

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (Matthew 12:31 & 32)

Lots of people speculate as to what is meant by “blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Spirit)”. I have heard some say that if you refuse to accept Jesus, or refuse to repent of your sin, as long as you live, that this is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

As with all Scripture study, context is very important. What is the situation that had just occurred that prompted Jesus to make this statement? Let’s go back a few verses:

22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.  (Note that there is a parallel passage in Mark 3, and Luke 12:10)

Here is a case where Jesus was casting out devils, or demons, from a person who had been demon possessed. Jesus Himself states that He had cast out the demon by the power of the Holy Spirit, but the Pharisees stated that Jesus was using the power of the devil to cast out devils.

This passage is actually giving us an example of, and defining, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit…to attribute an action by the Holy Spirit to be an action of the devil. How else can I put it? If you see a genuine miracle of God, performed by the Holy Spirit, and you say that the action was performed using the power of the devil, or Satan, you have committed the unforgivable sin!

Does this mean that if you fall on your face and beg Jesus to forgive you that He won’t do it? No. First we must understand the role of the Holy Spirit in salvation.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (Holy Spirit) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. (John 16:7-11)

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. (I Corinthians 12:3)

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: (Hebrews 3:7)

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (Romans 8:9)

One of the most important roles of the Holy Spirit is to convict men of sin. He pricks our conscience so that we seek a remedy for our sin, and He makes us willing to accept the sacrifice made on our behalf by Jesus on the Cross. It is the Holy Spirit Himself who imparts eternal life to us when we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

So, what does the Holy Spirit have to do to make sure we are lost for all eternity, when we commit the unforgivable sin?

Nothing.

You see, without the Holy Spirit convicting us of our sin, and our need for a saviour, we will live our lives without ever suspecting we are lost and in danger of eternal damnation. To ensure we don’t get saved, all He has to do is walk away from us!  It is the greatest act of love, and kindness, that the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin!

Jesus said it best in John chapter 3:

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The whole purpose of Jesus’ first coming was to save mankind. He had no obligation to you or me. He didn’t have to come, but He did anyway because he took pity on us. He saw our state was hopeless without Him. He is our only hope. He does not have to condemn us because we did that ourselves when we sinned.

Some tell us that we have committed this same sin when we question manifestations such as the laughing “revival”, or other antics of the extreme Charismatic movement. We know these are not of God for the same manifestations have been seen in pagan events. No, if there is anything of God in these manifestations it is judgment!

Have you ever seen a genuine miracle of God performed by the Holy Spirit?

The day is soon approaching when the whole world will witness an amazing miracle of God! How they react to it will determine how the Holy Spirit works in their life, or if He does at all. If they believe it was of God they will still be convicted of sin and still may be saved. Those who attribute the miracle to be a work of the devil will be lost forever. Not that they can’t repent, but that they won’t!

I am referring, of course, to the rapture of the Church. This is an event that will occur all over the world in an instant. Those who witness this event, and are left behind, will have a choice of what to believe has just happened. They may believe the truth that it was Jesus Christ snatching His people out of this world, or they may believe one of the various lies.

I’m not sure exactly what those lies will be, but I’m certain that there will be a number of them. Satan has been preparing the world to believe in alien beings for many years in order to condition the human race for this event. It is therefore very likely that the disappearance of Christians will be attributed to aliens.

For many years now those who report “close encounters” with alien beings have almost always had some experience with the occult in their past. These beings who claim to be aliens often have the same names as ancient pagan gods. The truth is that these “close encounters” with beings claiming to be aliens are actually close encounters with fallen angels.

So, what are you saying, if you attribute the disappearance of the Church to an alien abduction? Are you not saying that the snatch by Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit, was actually accomplished by the power of Satan? I think so. And I think that by believing, and spreading this lie, millions will have committed the unforgivable sin. The Holy Spirit will walk away from these people, and they will be comfortable in their lie, until Jesus returns and destroys them.

In the book of Revelation God speaks of those who refuse to repent of the evil they are doing in the midst of God’s judgments. This explains why these people refuse to repent. The Holy Spirit has left these people alone and they are no longer convicted of their sins.

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk. Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. (Revelation 9:20-21)

These are the same people who earlier took the mark of the Beast spoken of in Revelation 13. The angel in chapter 14 tells us that these people, who take this mark, will suffer the wrath of God, yet in chapters 9 and 16 it is indicated that they could repent.

14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

The best answer I have to this dichotomy is that these people have committed the unforgivable sin, and the Holy Spirit has walked away from them. Perhaps, by taking the mark of the Beast you are making a statement that attributes the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan. There is nothing physical to stop these people from repenting. They are still free agents, and could repent, but without the Holy Spirit convicting them of sin they will never do so. Not in a million years! And a million years later, having spent 999,000 years in the Lake of Fire, they still will not repent! Their anger at God, in that lake, will grow to an all consuming, burning hatred, and their presence there will glorify God for all eternity!

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. Psalms 76:10

If you have worried that you have committed the unforgivable sin, this is a good sign. It is a sign that the Holy Spirit is still working on you. You need to repent and trust Jesus Christ to save you. Hell and the Lake of Fire are real places, and we all deserve to go there. Jesus, on the other hand, wants to save as many as possible. His death on the cross was sufficient for all sin of all time. Trust Him and He will save you!

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved Romans 10:13

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

The Strange Work of God

Why on earth would God do something He considers strange? We are so used to God acting in the background that it is hard for us to comprehend that humanity will one day see Him do something strange.

“For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.” (Isaiah 28:21)

Here Isaiah is telling us of an event yet future. This event will occur during the later half of the Great Tribulation period. He is telling us about an act that will be in concert with the delusion that humanity will inflict on itself. It will help if we bring in some other related Scriptures:

“I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.” (Isaiah 66:4)

You see God has told us the truth in His word, the bible, but the majority of mankind, in their pride, have rejected the truth and are busy following fables. I mean fables like, “You evolved from pond scum” and “You are a part of God”, or “God is in all things”.

What is the logical conclusion of evolution? Isn’t it that “If life evolved on earth then it must have evolved somewhere else in the vast universe”?

Getting back to Isaiah 28:21 the word translated as “strange” can also be translated as “foreign” or “alien”. Now it is true that the word “alien” used to mean a person from another country, but I am quite certain that God knew that the meaning would change to one day mean a person from another planet. In fact Isaiah 66:4 indicates He has been in control of the process of changing word definitions.

I am quite sure that God has chosen aliens and UFOs as the major End Times delusion. His enemies who say “He has not made me” will jump to the idea that aliens planted life on earth, millions of years ago. When an “alien ship” lands on the White House lawn, or at the UN, no one will ask the hard questions like, “if these beings once claimed to be gods, or angels, and now claim to be aliens, when were, or are, they lying?”

There are other indications in Scripture that aliens and UFOs are the End Times delusion.

“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” (Revelation 16:13-14)

John, the author of Revelation, was not familiar with 20th century ideas of “little green men” as aliens. If he saw one, with his first century mind-set, no doubt he would think they look like frogs. Is this what he saw? I think so. I think these demons will be visible and will act as generals for the armed forces of the world to lead them to the great slaughter of Armageddon.

What will people think when the rapture occurs? Having been conditioned by shows like Star Trek won’t they assume that the Christians, who have disappeared in an instant, were the victims of an alien abduction?

“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (I Thessalonians 4:17)

Jesus spoke of the whole world mourning when His sign appears in the heavens. Think about it. They will all mourn, but not for the same reason. The believers will mourn for lost time, and for their families and friends. The unbelievers will mourn because they are compelled to fight this “alien” and they are not sure they will win! Indeed, they cannot win, but their interpretation of the signs will keep them deluded, and God’s “strange act” will allow them to maintain their delusion until it is too late!

He could destroy them all with a word, but instead he will act the way they expect an alien to act. He will hold back, and as a result they will be encouraged to keep on fighting Him to the bitter end!  If you believe He is God  you will fall down and worship Him, but if you believe He is an alien you will be predisposed to fight!  Make no mistake, Jesus is God!

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 4:30)

Here is a warning that God gives the people of the Antichrist. A warning we would all do well to heed:

“Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.” (Obadiah 1:4)

I think it is likely that the “aliens” (fallen angels) will tell the people of earth that they can take them away and hide them among the stars, to escape the returning Jesus. This is a lie, of course, but deluded people will grasp at straws rather than face the truth.

The truth is that we are all sinners deserving the judgment of God. God, in his amazing love, took upon himself the punishment we deserve, and made a way for us to escape. Jesus took responsibility for your sin, and if you call upon Him now to save you, He will do it, but if you wait until He returns it will be too late!

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) (2 Corinthians 6:2)

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

The Antichrist is coming, and he will claim that it is his name that saves, don’t be deceived, the name of Jesus Christ is the only name that saves!

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Why Didn’t God Condemn Polygamy?

This week I was listening to some radio interviews by Brannon Howse of Worldview Weekend.  I find Brannon very interesting, and for the most part I agree with him.  On September 13, 2011 his guest was Dr. John C. Whitcomb of Whitcomb Ministries Inc.

Dr. Whitcomb was the co-author with Dr. Henry Morris of a tremendously influential book “The Genesis Flood”, which is a scholarly examination of the evidence for a catastrophic worldwide flood, of Genesis chapter 6.  This book has been credited with sparking the modern Creation Science movement.  While I have not read it, I have read other books and articles by Dr. Morris, and if it is anything like his other work it is highly recommended.

As pertaining to Scientific Creationism, and the Genesis flood, I am in complete agreement with these gentlemen, but today I want to focus on some of the comments made by Dr. Whitcomb, regarding the biblical view of polygamy on Brannon Howse’s program.

One of the questions Brannon asked Dr. Whitcomb is “ Why did the Bible and God not condemn marriage to more than one woman at the same time?”  to which Dr. Whitcomb made several comments.  Among his comments was the statement that King David’s problems with his family, stemmed from the fact that he was married to several women at the same time.  The bible actually makes a statement as to where those problems came from, and it is not the same answer as stated by Dr. Whitcomb.

When David was confronted by Nathan the prophet, over his affair with Bathsheba, and his murder of her husband, Nathan stated specifically that David would suffer because of these sins.  There is no doubt that Amnon’s rape of his sister, Absalom’s murder of Amnon, and Absalom’s rebellion against his father were all the result of David’s sin.  The bible nowhere states that these problems were the result of polygamy, but the result of adultery, and murder.  We are adding something to Scripture, that God Himself has not added, when we try to make it say something it does not say.

2 Samuel 12:7-12

 7And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

9Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

11Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

12For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

The neighbour spoken of in verse 11 was none other than David’s son Absalom, who slept with ten of David’s concubines.

Clearly, God takes credit for giving David his wives in verse 8, and given the subject matter, would have given him more had he asked.  If God is the one who gave David his wives then we have to ask “why would God take credit for leading David into sin?”  Of course the Lord didn’t lead David into sin.  We need to allow God to define the words He uses.  When Moses wrote “thou shalt not commit adultery“, we can be sure that God did indeed define adultery in the law.

To which commandment was God referring in verse 9, that David had despised?  It cannot be the commandment to only have one wife, because there is no such commandment!  Furthermore, if there was such a commandment, then it would have been God Himself who despised it, since He had just said that it was He Himself who had given David his wives!  No!  David had despised the commandment not to covet his neighbor’s wife, and then he had despised the commandment to not commit adultery.

We can also see God’s defining of the term “adultery” in this passage.  David committed adultery when he took another man’s wife, but not before.  That was the occasion when David fell into sin.  Then he compounded it by committing murder.  When we insert our own definitions into scripture we do violence to the Word of God!

1 Kings 15:5

Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

When you change biblical definitions to suit your culture, you actually insert apparent contradictions into the word of God!  In 1 Kings 15:5 we have a statement that David’s heart was right in the eyes of the Lord, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.  The time covered by this statement would include the time that David was practicing polygamy.  Did God miss so obvious a sin?  No!  God never missed anything!  I have heard modern Baptists state that polygamists have “hard hearts”, yet David is the only person in the entire bible who is called “a man after God’s own heart”. (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22)

When studying the bible we ought to be very careful to look for the answers to our questions, that are specifically given in the Word of God, and not to create answers out of our own reasoning, to conform to our culture.

Dr. Whitcomb asserted that David’s problems were the result of polygamy.  If he is correct then we should not see the same problems in families that practice monogamy.  How far do we have to look to find similar problems in monogamous families?  A passage I’m sure Dr. Whitcomb is familiar with comes to mind, Genesis 4, the very earliest part of the bible.

In this passage the very first child, from the very first monogamous family, living in a very beautiful, practically perfect creation, murders his own brother!  Cain was a monogamist himself, incidentally.

As you read the bible you find sin after sin in the lives of all people, except the son of God.  It doesn’t matter the origin of the people involved, whether they are from polygamous or monogamous families, they are all sinners.  The human heart is a very, very dark place.  It is ridiculous to imply that the only sinners are those born to polygamous fathers, or that if you are monogamous you will have no problems!  In fact if you study carefully you will find that God Himself actually identifies with these men!  Go and read Jeremiah chapter 3, and the first 12 verses of Matthew 12.  In both passages the same God compares Himself with a polygamous man.

Note that in the King James bible the words “you”, “yourselves”, and “ye” always refer to more than one person, while “thee”, “thou”, and “thy” always refer to only one person.  When Israel split into two nations, God used the situation to compare himself to a man with two wives.  One wife leaves her husband and lives with other lovers, while the other wife stays with Him but is secretly unfaithful.  In this passage it is the polygamist who is innocent, wronged by both of his wives:

Jeremiah 3:1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

6The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

7And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

8And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

9And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

10And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

14Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

God has always viewed human marriage as an analogy of His relationship with his people, but this is not the only reason why He allowed polygamy.  Both Muslims and Jews have the idea that men are more favored by God, and this is why He allows men to have more than one wife.  This is incorrect, and can be refuted by a careful study of the Word of God.  Chapter 8 of The Spirit of Prophecy goes into more detail than I can in this post, but I want to give you a brief overview.

As you read through the Old Testament books of Moses, Judges, 1 & 22 Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles you will notice the large number of conflicts that Israel was involved with.  You read of one war after another with a list of the number of dead from each conflict, usually rounded to the nearest thousand.  You will notice that in each conflict there were thousands of men killed.  It is usually men who are killed because it is usually men who go to war.

There is something else that is implied in these passages though is not actually spelled out.  Given that the birth rate always is around 50/50, male/female children, it is only logical that in each conflict there would be a  corresponding number of widows left behind.  Since many of the men killed would be young, a number of them would not have even married yet, but nevertheless would leave behind the young woman God had intended for him to marry.

Here are a couple of examples:

1 Samuel 4:10

And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.

Later when Israel split into Judah and Israel there was a war between them:

2 Chronicles 13:17

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

These are not isolated examples, and they do show a problem that Israel encountered.  For each man killed there was a woman left behind.  With thousands of unattached women in the country there would be a huge moral problem.  These women had the same desires that all women have had from the beginning of creation; to have a husband and children.  If monogamy were the rule those women would have to entice men into affairs, or to divorce in order to remarry.

Could those women leave Israel and go to Syria or Egypt looking for a man?  Those nations were constantly at war too!  They had the same problem that Israel had; a shortage of men.  In fact, if Israel did not practice polygamy, and these other nations did, the tiny nation of Israel would have been overrun by these nations in a very short time.  The nation had a need for these women to have male children to man its army!  This is a national security issue!

How were those women to be cared for in their old age?  Don’t forget that the half-million widows of 2 Chronicles 13:17 would have been close to an entire generation!  How was the nation to survive without families and children?  This is a problem that Christians have universally overlooked, but I can assure you, it hasn’t escaped God’s attention!

How would a Loving God react to the situation I have just described?  Would He create a bunch of new men from dust, like Adam?  How would God provide for a half-million widows, in their old-age?  Don’t forget that some of those women would have been widows from their teens!

God actually answers our dilemma in an end times passage from Isaiah, chapters 3 and 4:

Isaiah 3:25Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

What war?  Armageddon!  What will be the result of their deaths?

Isaiah 4:1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

While the subject at hand specifically refers to Israel, this situation will be characteristic of the whole world, for every man in the Antichrist’s armies, and indeed all the armies that come against Jesus Christ, at his return, will be slaughtered.  Notice that these women are not asking for illicit affairs.  They want their husband’s name and a legitimate marriage, because Jesus will be ruling the world with a rod of iron!  Hanky-panky will not be allowed!

And how do we know that this passage is an End-Times passage, and has not been fulfilled already?  look at the next verses:

2In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

3And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:

4When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

In chapter 53 Isaiah informs us that Jesus is NOT beautiful at his first coming, just ordinary in His appearance, so this has to refer to his second coming.  Furthermore all the other conditions of these other verses have yet to be met, so we know for certain that this passage still awaits its fulfillment!

Some imagine that Jesus was condemning polygamy when he said:

“I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” (Matthew 19:9)

The truth is that he was making a direct reference to Moses in Exodus 21:10, a passage that specifically refers to polygamy:

“If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.” (raiment means clothing, and “duty of marriage” includes cooking, cleaning, friendship and intimate contact)

What is it when you diminish, or take away, your wife’s support? This is called divorce! Jesus was simply restating what Moses had written in Exodus 21:10! Essentially what it says is “when you marry your second wife you must continue to support your first wife, as well as keep up the relationship”. Furthermore he is adding that “just because you have a piece of paper saying you are divorced, it doesn’t mean you are truly divorced in God’s eyes”! This is not what is preached in most churches.

A lot of people claim to know Jesus, and I would never say they don’t know him, but many Christians don’t know him very well!

By the way, Moses actually commanded polygamy in Deuteronomy 25:5, and Exodus 22:16. In the first instance a man who’s brother died without having children was to marry his brother’s wife, and in the second instance a man who had sex with an unattached woman is required to marry her. Combining either of these verses with Exodus 21:10 amounts to a command of polygamy. So, when did God change His mind? (See Malachi 3:6)

What about Paul? Surely the one man who had so much to say concerning the creation of the Christian Church would have said something negative about polygamy?

Well, actually, Paul did say something, somewhat negative, about polygamy, in a round-about way:

1 Timothy 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

He also mentioned it in regards to the qualifications of a deacon:

8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

And to Titus:

Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: 6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Here we have three offices in the Church that are barred from polygamists; Bishop or Chief Elder, Deacon, and Elder (a member of the ruling body of a Church). Notice though, that this is never applied to Church membership, but only to higher offices. The intent here is simply that a man with several wives will not have enough time for his family, or his duties at the Church, and one or the other will suffer.

Please note that Paul also mentions other disqualifying characteristics that the Church is to avoid in their leaders. Very clearly there were people IN the Church who displayed some of each of these characteristics. There are some Christians who are a little too eager when it comes to wine. There are some Christians who are too quick to gossip, impatient, covetous, etc., but they are still born-again Christians. Very clearly then, there were some polygamists in the early Church. Paul wouldn’t have mentioned them if their presence was not an issue. For these men they are welcome in the Church of Jesus Christ, but these particular offices are closed to them. They can serve the Church in other ways, so long as they don’t neglect their families.

What of Muslims who convert to Christianity, who already have two or more wives? Should they abandon all but their first, as some churches say? Again Paul actually does have some advice for these men:

1 Corinthians 7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. 16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

God is concerned about the spiritual welfare of women as well as men. He wants to save as many as possible before he brings down judgment on this planet, and that judgment is coming soon! If you are a former Muslim who is now saved by the grace of God, through Jesus Christ alone, and you had more than one wife as a Muslim, according to the Scriptures you need to stay with them all, and love them in Christ! Live Christ for them! The God of the bible is truly a God of love! The same advice goes for Mormons, and Hindus, and anyone else who is a practising polygamist.

I can tell you that this passage, and this subject, has a very specific application in the person of the Antichrist!  Most Christians will not understand who he is because they look at this subject the same way Dr. Whitcomb does, and not by study and comparing Scripture with Scripture!

Daniel 11:36-37 has a statement that directly contrasts Jesus Christ, and His millennial reign, with a specific policy of the Antichrist.  As we have seen, Isaiah 4:1 outlines a specific event of the early days of the millennial reign of Jesus Christ with regard to a request, or desire, of seven women to marry one man, because their men were killed fighting Jesus at his return.  The Antichrist will arise after a similar war, and his response to a similar request will be the exact opposite.  Read it for yourself:

36“And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

37Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.”

The God of his fathers is the Allah of the Koran, who has always allowed men to marry more than one wife.  By repudiating this Muslim policy, the Antichrist will appeal to Christians, especially those who think the God of the bible is against polygamy.  They won’t suspect the truth until it is too late!  Satan has been working a long time to get the Christian Church on his side, and I think this is the one subject that will actually work with most Evangelicals, and Fundamentalists!

If you want to know more on how this subject relates to the Antichrist you can get a copy of my book The Spirit of Prophecy.  Chapter 8 goes into far more detail than I can in this brief blog post.  Everything is backed up with Scripture, in context, and the challenge goes out to all professing Christians; Prove me wrong by the King James bible!  I dare you!

Hey Haters @ Stephen Furtick

I was alerted to Pastor Stephen Furtick’s rant against people he calls “haters” on Brannon Howse’s Worldview Weekend program on Sept 20, 2011.

As I listened to the rant and the incessant beat, I realized that this guy is full of hate toward bible believers!  People who take the bible seriously are those he calls “haters”.  If you want to know Jesus, and follow His teaching, Stephen Furtick has no tolerance for you!

If Mr. Furtick was just a fringe character he could be ignored, but this “gentleman” has recently been a guest of James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel, Illinois.

As I listened I realized that, in a twisted way, Mr. Furtick may be partially correct.  He says the days of the bible believers having influence in the Church are done, and this appears to be the way things are going!  He ends his rant by stating that the Church is more about “love” than about doctrine.  Is this really so?  What does Jesus say about it?

If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15

And:

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23

You see this is real love.  Accepting everybody, including their sin, is not love.  It’s kind of like giving a man a glass of water as he’s on his way to the lake of fire!  No! I’m not saying that we should discriminate against sinners, but we cannot approve of their sin.  They need to know that their sin is offensive to God.  You can’t get saved if you think God is happy with your sin!

Am I better than the unsaved?  Absolutely not!  There was a place in the deepest part of the Lake of Fire with my name on it!  My sin separated me from God!  Jesus, however, took my place, I repented, received the forgiveness He offers, and I am free!  God took the wrath that was aimed at me, and aimed it at His only begotten son!  Furtick and the Purpose Driven crowd want to make it all about serving people, making this world a better place, focusing on a temporary benefit, and ignore the tremendous sacrifice Jesus made for us all!

People like Furtick are offensive to me because they belittle the Lord Jesus Christ and the people He died for.  These so-called “haters” actually hate sin, even their own sin. Sometimes they make mistakes, but does that justify derogatory labels that Furtick places on them?

Of course the people he is really aiming at are those who won’t unite with false Christians, cults, and error, for the sake of unity.  People like Brannon Howse, and Apprising Ministries, the discernment ministries, who are exposing the modern apostasy that is making it’s way into all denominations, are the object of Furtick’s scorn.  If you exercise discernment you will not join the End-Times Church of the Antichrist, which is rapidly forming today.

The fact that Harvest Bible Chapel would have someone like Furtick speak, is evidence that their conservatism of the past was just a show to suck-in unsuspecting believers.  Now they are beginning to show their true colors.  The same thing is going on in the Calvary Chapel denomination as well.

The hour truly is late!

Come, Lord Jesus!
