In the Context of the End Times there are 3 Babylons; Babylon (or Hillah), Iraq is Babylon #1, then Rome is Babylon #2, and then Amman is Babylon #3. Today Rome is Babylon, but soon the original city will take back the title, for a time.
I was walking my dog one time, and I was thinking about how Grant Jeffrey said that “the sea” in Scripture often is a reference to “the sea of nations” or the Gentiles, and that “the land” is a reference to “the land of Israel”. I was thinking about how he said that “the beast from the sea” in Revelation 13 means that the Antichrist is from a Gentile background, while “the beast from the land” means that the False Prophet has a Jewish or Jewish/Israeli background.
I remember thinking “OK, so the Antichrist must come from the Gentiles, but how then will he sell himself to the Jewish people? How could a Gentile make the claim that he is God in the flesh, and expect the Jews to believe him?” Well, I had no answer to that question, so I went home, and went to bed.
The next morning, everything was as usual, I got up, had a shower, and fed the dog, then I sat down to eat breakfast, and opened my bible to the passage where I had left-off the day before. I was reading through Isaiah, and so I opened up to chapter 63, and this was the first thing I read that morning;
63:1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
I had read this verse before, but this was the first time I even thought that it might be possible that the Antichrist could come from anywhere other than Rome! This passage very clearly states that God comes from Edom. (Note also that Habakkuk 3:3 also states the same thing.)
I am convinced that God knew where I was in His Word, and He ensured that I was thinking along these lines, and either heard my question, or led me to the point where I would ask that question. His answer was in His Word all along!
The Antichrist must be able to use Scripture in order to “prove” to Israel that he is their Messiah! Of course there is no Scripture that says the Antichrist is the Messiah, but by taking it out of context he will be able to make it seem like he is the subject of this, and other passages of Scripture!
Isaiah 63:1 is actually talking about the return of Christ, first to the Jews who are in hiding across the Jordan river from Israel, and then from there He goes out conquering the World. The tribe of Edom, founded by Jacob’s brother Esau, was one of the three founding tribes of that modern nation.
Like I said, before this I had always heard that Rome was the “Babylon” of Revelation 17, and the “seven mountains” of this chapter are the seven hills of Rome. Rome is indeed the leader of the fourth nation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in Daniel chapter 2. The the spirit of Babylon was passed from Babylon, to Medo-Persia, then to Greece, and finally to Rome, where it has been for some 2348 years.
But that is not the end of the story. The End Times Empire, that covers the whole world, has been twisting, and morphing, and worming its way into every society on earth, and soon it will complete the circle and end up where it started.
This transition was written about by the prophet Zechariah in a passage that might seem somewhat cryptic at first glance;
5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.
7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.
8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.
9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?
11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base. Zechariah 5:5-11
Hmm, that does seem rather odd, doesn’t it? Let me see if I can shed some light on this passage;
An Ephah is a measure of dry quantity, roughly equivalent to 9 imperial gallons, or about 40 litres. It is basically a container which holds this volume.
Originally I skipped the statement “This is their resemblance through all the earth”, so I will do that again today, and get back to it in a bit.
A “Talent” of lead refers to a round weight, and lead is very heavy; i.e. a great burden. A Talent was also a form of money, or a round coin, based on weight.
The “woman” who sits in the midst of the ephah is none other than the “Mother Goddess” of Paganism.
This woman is in the midst of the ephah, and the lead talent is placed over the mouth of the container. She is essentially a prisoner of these two “women with wind in their wings”. She has no ability to move herself, but goes where these women take her.
Essentially, she is an idol, and the place they are taking her is a new place they are building in the place where she came from in the beginning, at Babel (or Babylon). This is why it refers to “her base”; her base is already there.
You see, Paganism began with the first king of Babel, or Babylon; Nimrod, and his wife Semiramis. Nimrod died, and some histories say he was put to death for the evil he began, and his wife reigned in his place. Semiramis said, when Nimrod died, that he ascended up to the sun, and thus became the high God, or the Sun God.
A few years later she got pregnant, and claimed that she was impregnated by a sunbeam from her husband in Heaven, thus her pregnancy was claimed to be a virgin birth. When her son was born she called him Tammuz, and he was said to be the reincarnation of her husband, Nimrod. Tammuz was the first Antichrist.
Later on, Tammuz was killed by a wild boar, and Semiramis started a spring celebration where they were commanded to eat boar, or pig, as vengeance for the death of Tammuz. This was the beginning of the Easter celebration. In Ezekiel 8:14 we see the Lord angry with Israel for their participating in this celebration and provoking the Lord to anger.
Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. Ezekiel 8:14
When Semiramis died she too was claimed to have ascended to Heaven, and became known as the “Queen of Heaven”, the central goddess of Paganism. This all happened around the same time as the Tower of Babel, and the tribes that were dispersed around the world took this pagan religion with them. Thus anthropologists have found that paganism is the same all over the world; only the names have changed.
So Semiramis, Nimrod, and Tammuz became known variously as Devaki and Krishna (India), Isis and Horus (Egypt), Venus or Fortuna and Jupiter (Rome), etc. (also Demeter, Ishtar, Astarte, Diana, etc) They are the central figures of all forms of paganism. This is a religion that was intended to supplant the worship of the true God, and succeeded in doing so in the lives of most people.
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Jeremiah 7:18
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. Jeremiah 44:25
God has a score to settle with the land of Nimrod. Here, in the midst of an End Times prophecy, He mentions that name again;
And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. Micah 5:6
Note that the Antichrist can be called “the Assyrian” even if he wasn’t born there; Once he is proclaimed the king of Babylon, he will automatically be the king of Assyria, even if Assyria is known as Iraq! Iraq is the modern name for Assyria.
You may have heard of Alexander Hislop’s book, “The Two Babylons”, written in the 1800s. It has been years since I read that book, but I must say that there is some important information within its pages. His central thesis is that there are two Babylons; Babylon proper, and Rome, which has taken on the spirit and pagan characteristics of the original Babylon.
His central thesis is true to an extent, but as you may have noticed, I believe there are actually three Babylons with regard to End Times prophecy. Today Rome has taken on the spirit of Babylon, but as we have seen in Zechariah 5, the spirit of Babylon will soon move back to its original location.
When will that move take place?
I believe the Scriptural evidence is that Rome will be destroyed during the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39, shortly before the end of the Church Age. Once Rome is destroyed, and uninhabitable, then the remaining Catholic Churches will move back to Babylon, Iraq (Which is today known as Hillah, or al Hillah), and there they will build a new headquarters for the End Times World Religion.
That brings me back to the two women with wings of Zechariah 5:9. I originally thought that these look like two angels, which would make them the only female angels in the bible. I could see that it says “this is evil” so I thought they might be fallen angels, but I missed something; The little phrase found in verse 6 “This is their resemblance through all the earth”!
In Scripture when we see words such as “like” or “as”, or “as it were” we need to realize that it is telling us that something has characteristics like something else. In other words it is an allegory, but not to be taken literally. It is the same in this case: the phrase “their resemblance” means that this is what it looks like, in a way.
So who are these “women with wind in their wings”? I believe the answer is that they are “daughters of the Harlot”, like we see in Revelation 17:5
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
If I were to identify them specifically, I would guess that one is the Roman Catholic Church, and the other is her partner, with whom she shares much doctrine; the New Apostolic Reformation. The NAR is the fastest growing segment of Christianity today. Many Churches that used to be Baptist, Pentecostal, Wesleyan, Anglican, and others, are now following and teaching the false doctrines, of the New Apostolic Reformation!
One of the doctrines being taught by the NAR is the “Seven Mountain Mandate”. This is the idea that in order for the Church to transform society it has to infiltrate, and take over, seven areas of society, namely; 1) Education 2) Religion 3) Family 4) Business 5) Government/Military 6) Arts/Entertainment 7) Media
I am not going to go too deep with these 7 mountains today, but I believe this is the “seven mountains” of Revelation 17:9
And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.”
The key is the use of the word “wisdom”; This is not a matter of geography, but of wisdom. These are not literal mountains, but concepts. This is a Satanic strategy to take over the planet. The Christian mandate is to preach the gospel of Salvation by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and His work on the cross! That is it! As Jesus Himself said …
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. John 18:36
“But now is my kingdom not from hence”, or here! We are not commanded to take over this world, but to teach doctrine and make disciples. Jesus does indeed have a time when He will take over this world, but that time is not dependent on Christians doing anything! We are to do what He commanded us, and He will bring in His Kingdom, in His time!
In their attempt to force the Kingdom, these people will actually enable the Antichrist! Thinking they are serving God, they are actually serving Satan!
In their rush to take over the world, they will be moving their Headquarters back to Babylon Number 1!
Then, after the Beast has used these people to gain power, he will destroy them, and Babylon as well. Then he will move his headquarters to his hometown, the city of seven literal mountains, Amman.
At the time of Christ, Amman was known as Philadelphia, but this is not to be confused with the Philadelphia of Revelation 3. That Philadelphia was situated a few miles to the north in what is known today as Turkey. Amman was the original Philadelphia, and I am certain that the Antichrist will use this fact as a deception to trick people into thinking that Amman is really the city of Revelation 3, the most blessed city in the seven letters to the Churches. Amman does make an appearance in Revelation, but not in chapter 3, it is actually the city of Revelation 18!
There is so much more information leading to the identification of the Antichrist as coming from Jacob’s twin brother, Esau, I would recommend you read the series of four articles I have written, starting with The Nation of the Antichrist, or for a more detailed exposé you could always pick up a copy of The Spirit of Prophecy.
So yes, while there are numerous cities carrying the spirit of Babylon throughout history, during the End Times there are only three; Rome, the current Babylon, will lose its position to the original Babylon during the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39, then at the mid-point of the Tribulation, when the Antichrist destroys the Harlot Church and the city, the spirit of Babylon will move to Amman for the last half of the Tribulation period!
And those, my friends, are the Three Babylons of End Times Biblical Prophecy!
