Lately, as everyone has been distracted with the Bowe Bergdahl exchange, a large part of the news has been ignored. I am talking about the civil war in Iraq, of course.
For a loose, undisciplined, demoralized, ragged band of terrorists to take the second largest city in Iraq, Mosul, and now Tikrit, it must be a miracle of immense proportions!
Now they are preparing to march on Baghdad.
This won’t end with al Qaeda taking control of Iraq. They have their eyes set on bigger things, and I predict that they will control the entire Arab world in the not-too-distant future.
I find it interesting that the al Qaeda branch “the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (al-Sham) goes by the acronym ISIS, which as any person with some knowledge of history should know, was an ancient pagan goddess. Isis was also known as Ashteroth, Ishtar, and Diana, and eventually morphed into the Roman Catholic “Mary”. (She is not the mother of Christ, but actually the mother of Tammuz, the pagan sun god, who originated not far from the focus of this story, in ancient Babylon, just 50 miles from Baghdad)
What is going on is the lead-up to fulfilment of biblical prophecy.
Psalm 83 lists a coalition of nations who will one day attack Israel. Rather than their modern name, they are identified by their ancient tribal names. That day is fast approaching, and the issue the combatants now face is how to unify their coalition. We can see them working on it in our daily news.
Once they are successful in Iraq, they will concentrate on Syria, and then Jordan, Lebannon, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. I would not be surprised to see the Muslim Brotherhood cooperate with them in Egypt, in order to oust al-Sisi. Once they have succeeded in uniting the Arabs, then you can expect to see them go after Israel.
Here is a section of the Psalm
4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. 5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: 6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; 7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
While these nations are serving the Allah of the Qur’an, this is not the God of the bible! Ultimately they are against the God of the bible, and He is the one they are really targeting.
The subject today is the people of Northern Iraq, which was the centre of Assyria. Mosul is located very near the ruins of Nineveh, in the province of Nineveh, Iraq. Nineveh was one of the capital cities of ancient Assyria. The modern nation is represented in the psalm by the reference to the patriarch of Assyria; Assur.
Many are confused by the similarities between the names Assyria and Syria, but they are not the same nation, although the ancient conquering nation of Assyria actually absorbed the language of subjugated Syria; Aramaic. Today many in both nations use Arabic, because of the influence of the Qur’an, but as I have shown elsewhere Arabic will shortly disappear as a spoken language!
Syria itself is indicated in the psalm by the name “Hagarenes”, also called “Hagarites” in other parts of the bible. These were two of the tribes of Ishmaelites who separated from their brothers in Saudi Arabia, and moved to the area known today as the Golan, and as Gilead in the bible.
These are the people who are behind the Syrian civil war, which is also spilling over the border into Iraq. Ultimately they will drag Syria into this confederation against Israel.
How long will this all take? I can’t tell you exactly, but it looks really close.
Psalm 83 does not actually tell us the result of the conflict, but we can find the results in other parts of the bible. Isaiah 17:1 appears to be a reference to this war;
The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Since the time that Isaiah wrote chapter 17, Damascus has been one of the oldest continuously-occupied cities in the world, perhaps the oldest. God, however, will lead someone, probably Israel, to destroy this city. It’s sand will turn to glass.
Again, I can’t be sure, but it sure looks like parts of Isaiah 19 will be fulfilled before the millennial reign of Christ. I think this will be part of the deception that Israel’s troubles are over, even before the beginning of the Tribulation period.
17 And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it. 18 In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.
I am well aware that parts of Isaiah 19 will not be fulfilled until Christ rules the earth, but I have every reason to believe that Satan wants it to appear that everything is fulfilled when the Antichrist is set to arise. His goal is to lull Israel into a false sense of security, so it must appear that all the millennial prophecies are being fulfilled.
If this is the case then it would appear that Cairo is likely the city mentioned in verse 18 as “the city of destruction”.
Places like Riyadh, and Baghdad, are not mentioned in the bible, but the bible is clear that Babylon will once again take up the mantle of a world-leading city. I can’t think of a better way for Babylon to once again step into the limelight, except that a major catastrophe will befall Baghdad. It is a logical conclusion that these other capitals will fall during the same war as Cairo and Damascus.
It appears that the invasion of the Psalm 83 coalition will be so devastating, and nearly successful, that Israel will be forced to resort to the nuclear option.
In the aftermath of this war, Israel will be convinced to give up her nuclear weapons. The devastation will be so bad, and the world shaken so much, that most western nations will give up their nukes, as will Russia and China (to all appearances).
This will be the time when Israel will seek a guarantor for security, if they give up their nuclear weapons, and the European Union, or what is left of the European Union, will agree to be that guarantor. You can expect that the leadership of this union will have moved to Rome. It couldn’t be otherwise!
At this time, most Evangelical Christians will point to the leader of this European Union, as being the Antichrist, and the pope as the false prophet.
This agreement will work for a time, but probably around seven years later, the nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38-39 will launch a sneak attack on Israel. Because of the European leader’s agreement with Israel, they will launch a pre-emptive strike against the European capital (most likely Rome), before, or while their armies are en-route towards their target.
If you have spent time in an Evangelical Church, the scenario I have laid out is probably familiar to you, except I am here to tell you this is not Armageddon! While some of them will tell you that this period between, and including, these two wars is the Tribulation period, I am here to tell you; It is not!
This is one of Satan’s most clever counterfeits yet! A counterfeit Armageddon!
Satan is desperate. He has had six thousand years to wreak havoc on the earth, and now as his time is growing short, he will pull out all the stops!
He will create an artificial Tribulation period, based on biblically prophesied wars, complete with a stand-in for the Antichrist, for the purpose of making the real Antichrist appear to be a hero!
His plan will succeed so well that, in the end, his Antichrist will be put on the world throne by the efforts of a great many professing Christians!
So here we are in the early stages of the End Times scenario. Keep your eyes on the Middle East. Things are about to get interesting!
