There has been a lot of hand wringing over the last few days, among friends of Israel, and lovers of peace, regarding the US led deal with Iran. With good reason, I might add.
It is very obvious that Iran is playing games with the “International Community”, in a bid to buy time. The 6 Security Council foreign ministers, plus Germany are also playing for time, so in the end, who’s time-play will be most fruitful? It does not look to me, or the Iranian leadership, like the Security Council members, and Germany, are prepared to back-up their talk with action.
For most people, including most Christians, the question comes down to “How can we stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb, and attacking Israel with it?” My question for those Christians is “Where does faith come into this?” Is it up to us to control the future of the world, or is the world in the hands of Someone more powerful than all of us put together?
As I read the bible on the subject of its End Times prophecies, I do not see any event which could be interpreted as a nuclear attack on Israel. The same could not be said for other nations, and I think it is likely that those nations that are facilitating Iran’s nuclear ambitions will be first on the list! Ezekiel 39:6 could easily be interpreted as a nuclear attack on both Russia and the USA, (and perhaps others). Whether this judgment is nuclear, or “fire and brimstone from the sky” is debatable, but either way, it will be from God.
Israel is the “apple of God’s eye”, and He will not allow such devastation on this land. He has a stated goal of bringing the Hebrew people back to the land, and they will surely NOT come back when there is the imminent threat of nuclear annihilation from Iran. A nuclear attack on Israel by Iran would not fit in with God’s stated purposes.
No, Something will happen that will set Iran’s nuclear program back many years if not indefinitely. Perhaps a strike by Israel, aided by the Saudis. Or maybe, internal Iranian sabotage could derail the program. A still further possibility is another Iranian revolution.
As I have demonstrated elsewhere, and in the Spirit of Prophecy, there are at least two major wars that Israel will experience before the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, the Great Tribulation begins.
The first of these wars, despite what others are saying, is a local war between Israel and the surrounding Arab nations. This war, described in Psalm 83, lists the modern nations by the ancient tribes who inhabited that land. Curiously, Iran, Libya, Turkey and Russia are not a part of that war.
The outcome of the Psalm 83 war is not indicated in the psalm itself, but can be found in other Scriptures. I believe this will be the time that Damascus will be destroyed, as described in Isaiah 17:1. Isaiah 19 describes how Egypt will be destroyed by fire, and that five Egyptian cities will end up speaking the tongue of Canaan, Hebrew. Zechariah 11:1 describes how the “cedars of Lebanon” will be burned by fire, and the previous chapter describes how some of the the returning Israelite refugees will have to go to Lebanon, because there will not be enough room in Israel, and Gilead (the Golan).
God has given Lebanon to Israel (Deut 11:24). They have not taken possession of it as yet, but they will.
When Israel is victorious in this war, many of the remaining Jews at-large will return, but not all of them. They are waiting for another war to be over;
The other Church-age war is the Gog and Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39. This war will include Iran, Libya, Turkey, Russia, and likely the remaining Muslim nations, but NOT Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. It appears that Israel will have given up her nuclear arms, after the Psalm 83 war, and thus will not be able to defend herself during this surprise attack. As a result God will directly intervene on Israel’s behalf. At this point the whole world will know that God is protecting Israel, and yet, the Tribulation, the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, will not have even begun ! Knowing that God is protecting Israel, even worshipping the true God, does not mean you are saved!
This war will result in the final influx of the last Israelite refugees from around the world, see Ezekiel 39:25, and then the Tribulation will begin!
This devastating war will result in cries for peace from around the world, and this is the time that the Beast will arise as a saviour!
So what of the current nuclear deal with Iran? It is not worth the paper it is written on (something like 5 cents a sheet). Iran, a Muslim nation, follows Muhammad’s doctrine of Taqiyya, a blessing of lying to one’s enemies, in order to give Islam the upper hand. Just because they smile and shake your hand, it does not mean they have your best interests at heart!
Something or someone will stop Iran’s nuclear program, but that won’t stop Tehran’s animosity to Israel. It will prevent them from joining the Arabs in the Psalm 83 war, but it won’t prevent them from eventually invading with Russia later on. It shall be interesting to see how God works this out.
